You've got to wonder about that kinda thing. Granted you never build an older car to make money on it, but jeez, and $30K and it's still STOCK?!
Man..

Pretty car though... Needs a nice diesel engine..

Beautiful SEC!

I love the SEC's. This one is fantastic. It is not hard to spend $30,000 on one of these cars but it is really hard to get the money back out.

THe car looks excellent but with 140,000 miles, what is the best price from a willing buyer? With the heads and fuel injection the motor should run well for a long time and the spindles on the wheels being replaced shows that they measured all the critical dimensions and replaced as necessary, by the book. It looks like ti was restored properly. Do we have an asking price?

When I started fixing up my SL I was told I would never sell it. I asked why and was told I would have too much money in it. THey were right. I have more in it than it would sell for. The best thing to do is fix it then drive it.

Zebrano.....?

Did anyone else catch that he says it has "zebrano" wood instead of burl walnut? Unless this is a special order it makes me wonder what type of "enthusiast" he is.

If memory serves, this car was on E-Bay or Auto Trader a year ago. Don't recall the price if it was given. FYI

I knew this car looked familiar. I found it in an issue of STAR magazine last night. I think I have also seen it on ebay at some time or another.

Benzboy87: What issue of the Star?

I want to see if I have the issue.

THere is a local SEC that looks good selling for about $8000. Unless you are going to show it or have a ton of dough to toss around I would ge the old goat and fix it up. But that is just me. I do my own service and it's kind of a hobby...

It was either May/June or maybe March/April of 2004. It is in the classifieds. I don't have access to them right now or I would look it up for you. It pretty much repeats what is in the thread above.
I know what you mean. With my 420SEL I expect it to look and perform like a new car (which it is not) and many times I get disgusted with myself because I see some of the "non-restored" autos in the STAR and wish that mine was as clean, free of door dings, mechanically perfect, etc. as those other cars. I would be the one to dump big $$$ into a car because I become emotionally attached to it - schmuck that I am.

We are like brothers!

I could have said the same thing! I want perfection but am not smart enough to sell mine and buy a really good one. One more repair, one more fix, a little paint and my car will be perfect! But alas, there are still nagging problems and some of the cosmetic parts are so expensive... I think I am going to drive it til I drop because if I keep repairing it it will last forever. (I have spent $7000 in parts over the last 5 years and I did the labor). It sure is crude next to a new one but I am not a new SL500 buyer and unless I hit the lotto or something, I don't think I will ever be one.

Regarding the ad, I thought it was featured, not advertised for sale.

Sorry for the miscommunication. It was an ad - not feature. I have somehow nicked the plastic rocker panel on the drivers side driver door and can not find one to replace it. I also need the caps that cover the bolts that are attached to the trans. tunnel in the back seat. Other than that my interior is perfect - except dirty right now. Anyone know where I can obtain these parts? I have tried with the dealer and they have been on order for almost 6 mo. now. The color is palomino (420SEL).

I only know the usual sources.

Did you try Phil at Partsshop?

Interior parts are so expensive that I passed on a car because the front and back seats seemd to need recover and rebuild. THe parts were almost $3000 including 2 new seat bottom frames. A good interior is important!

What is the price

Never saw the actual asking price, did I miss something? The 733 has been on Ebay and in Roundel but I don't think it ever sold. Does anyone know what the actual asking price is?

Not bad, if you have the money...

If you have the money to buy it, I wouldn't expect to have much service needed in the near future. I would like it but my wife would kill me.
