Acouple of days ago I came across a 300DT W123 in my area,just driving by,it was for sale in front of a house.I talked to the person who let me look at the car.It was not driven in 3 months(Chicago winter months),I turned the key and it started like somebody just turned off after a highway trip,could not belive it.I do not remember in the last 15 years to listen to a 5 cyl so quiet,no vibration,no leaks,very healthy car.I bought it,right there,planning to do some body work on it...if somebody wants it you can have it for 1600$,firm,very unusual car:
Interior is almost perfect,dry,perfect carpet,great seats,sunroof works,all power windows work,radio antenna retracts all the way...trunk is like new,dry.
Mechanically,as stated,has been a while since I drove the last W123 that is so quiet,you have to guess is a diesel...shifts between gears without hesitation,cold or warm,no hard shifts,goes in gear and reverse in a split second...hard to find such a healthy diesel,also,very interesting it has a EGR PLUG inside the car on the pass. side panel,new tires,original paint.
Suspension is perfect,stiff,quiet,no play in the steering wheel at all,drives terrific,again,I did not belive I am gonna come across a W123 that will feel so
healthy,most of them,as you know,have been rebuild,redone,no way you will get that "newer diesel" feel again,fast acceleration with no noise or vibration or rear end noise...this car feels like that.
It has rust on the outside panels only,like new underneath,floors are perfect,no water...great car to clean the rust spots and paint it original dark blue,I will do that if nobody takes the car in the next 3-4 days.I have some pictures.

For what its worth my '85 300D sedan has an egr module of some sort on the interior passenger side front footwell...IIRC there's a little plastic door to provide access
