1987 300 SDL for sale. CLEVELAND

1 Attachment(s)
For Sale my 1987 300 SDL.
It has 318,000 on the odometer, blue exterior with gray leather interior.
I purchased with 293,702 on 7/25/2003.
It has been my vehicle for work and family. We love it because of the size and it has been my daily driver on and off . I also have a 97 ford Taurus. 94 Toyota pickup and a 99 Toyota Tacoma.

New parts since then are
Serpentine belt
Entire length of Parking brake cable
Overhaul rear right brake
Reman rear left brake
New rear brake pads and parking brake pads
New rear drum/rotors
Rear sway bar links
Rear brake lines
Antenna mast
Water temp sensor
Hood bracket stops
Motor mounts both sides
Motor shock left side
Front sub suspension (4 bearing bracket bushings)
2 guide rod mount kits
inside drivers door handle
new flowmaster 3” mandrel bent exhaust
Flex-a-Lite low profile electric fan for radiator.
Idler pulley
Transmission filter
Vacuum hose

Current mpg runs about 25-26. I do mostly in town commute of 15 miles round trip
The car has developed a shake in the front suspension above 55-60 mph so I don’t take it on the highway lately. But my commute is at the fastest 50mph.
I’m selling it due to a busy summer. I will be married in June and currently putting bids on a new home.
It will need
Front brakes
Front suspension parts. Included are the upper control arms for both sides.
Driver side door lock cleaned. It stopped working a month ago.
A/C works but the evaporator fins are corroded so its not really cold.
The climate control needs re soldering as well as the cruise control and my son just broke the cruise control lever.
Injectors need checked. Car purrs like a kitten when diesel purge is used. Also cold starts are a breeze. Never had a problem even on below zero days. ( just hit the glow plugs twice) but the engine has a shake/knock at warm idle. Completely goes away depending on fuel but I suspect one injector needs overhauled.
$1900

parts i forgot to include are
new fenders to replace the rusty right and left. the shipper damaged the left fender but the buyer can have it.
also new on the car is the differential mount.
i also have the rear submounts but have not installed.

Im sorry if anyone felt i was misleading the public by trying post the worst pictures i could take of my car. I thought honesty would have been a good start but...if anyone has an intrest in a project car or needs a second parts car please let me know what it might be worth to you.
its scary to think what people are paying for used 603's and transmissions.

As long as the undercarriage is solid, this rust is not a huge cause for concern- especially for anyone just needing a good car to commute back and forth to work.

I guess it is the excessive salt that they use in northern Ohio that causes this rust. I bought a 1994 Chevrolet Lumina a few years ago that was originally from Ohio. I did not know that until I looked at the undercarriage and saw the extreme rust scale. I live in Tennessee- where rust is not a problem on cars originally from here, so I investigated this car and that was when I discovered it was originally from the Cleveland, OH area. It was a phone company car- so it was perfectly maintained mechanically- so even with 165K- it still ran like brand new- which is really something for a 90s American made car. Too bad they did not take care of the body a little better, but I think that with all of the snow that they get up there, it would be impossible to keep the salt off of a car in the winter, unless you just simply did not drive it in the winter.

Being from the south- I have never seen a Mercedes in person with a lot of rust- but I have saw the northern examples on the internet with the rust issues- or perhaps some folks down here from the north with some rust woes. The only exception was my old 74' 240D, that had severe undercarriage rust, but not because of salt exposure. It actually had an engine problem and was parked in a swamp by the previous owner (which was the person who bought it from my uncle in 1984) for years- which in turn rusted out the rear floors and trunk pan. Otherwise- the body was 100% rust free.

Good luck selling.

BTW- how is the undercarriage? Any rust holes, rust scale, or is it totally rust free?

I used to own a 81' Toyota Cressida that was originally from Pennsylvania. It too was 100% rust free, but it had a very heavy coat of factory undercoating. It almost looked like a heavy grease all under the engine compartment.

I have to say I don't know how that car got so bad. Mine has some rust which I'm going to take care of this summer but nowhere near that bad! Especially that front fender. The PO must have never washed it and parked it in salt bed or something. My car is origianally from this remote area (Grainger, IN) and it's not nearly like that. Oh well, best of luck with it. I must say however that engine looks really clean and it still has the insulation on the breather hose.

Thanks
David

Thats the worst case of rust on a w126 I've ever seen. This definately makes me want to keep the pristine 560 out of commission from November to March

Or maybe a trade?

does anyone have any motorcycles/ enclosed trailers other or wood working tools. (more than just a hand saw and a 5# bag of nails please) delta tablesaw or riding/commercial lawn mowers. shotguns/rifles?

If you dont want to buy this car to fix it you could always trade your mid 80's bmw motorcycle and part the SDL out for more than just beer money!

let me know what you have to offer.
:D Oh boy am i setting myself up on this one. :D

Send me a private message

thanks

My SDL is the same color scheme - it hurt me to look at it. Would be a very cool project but distance is a killer.
