WANTED : Atlanta area diesel, <$4k

Must be auto trans, must have working A/C. The colder the better.

Im looking to do a WVO swap, so the 123-126 will be given special consideration. If you have title and VIN, Ive got cash. Email me info/pics/soonest time I can look at it.

If anyone can find a good diesel in the Atlanta area under $4k, engatwork can.

He seems to have a knack for finding good, inexpensive diesels.

Good luck, just so you know 123 is the "E" body so that would be a 300D or a 240D, the 126 body is the "S" body as in SD. Happy hunting

This one was for sale around here recently. Not sure if he sold it or not. It was a euro 300D (non turbo). Looked great from 50' BUT as you can see in the pic it had been in a fender bender and ever who did the repair had done a very poor job as evidence in the photos. The rust is at the bottom of the fender because when they did the repair they filled up the drain holes and the fender joint under the hood was not done properly. He was asking $3200 which I thought was high. I did not post info about it because of his, in my opinion, high asking price.

They do come up occasionally but I already have two local people that I am looking for one for. The last one I put a friend on had around 208k miles and he got it for $1900. It had three inches of maintenance records and all it needed (other than a paint job) was a brake job (I did it for him last Saturday) and it needs the a/c system rebuilt. He is going to put his 16 yr old daughter in it later this summer.

One thing I found unique about the euro 300D cars (and this is the second euro 300D I have seen like this) is the fact that they do not have the Delco R4 compressor but another type of compressor. This particular white car had been converted to r134 and it blew ice cold - even at idle. Next time I see one like this I am going to try to determine what kind of compressor it is running and figure out what kind of bracket is used on it. There was a maroon euro 300D for sale around here not long ago that looked and ran out good. I will ride by where it was for sale and see if it is still there.

I watch the ATL paper every weekend and there were ONLY two in there this past weekend and BOTH of them were priced above $5k. Five years ago you would have found 10-12 in there for sale.

He will come down on the price once realized that no one is biting.

Not too bad looking though. I wonder if rust like that is even repairable?

He may have already sold it. I have not seen it at the spot where he had it parked beside the road. Typically, they sell pretty quickly around these parts. The fender is a simple matter to change out. If there is rust on the metal underneath the fender it will be a little more challenging to repair.

Selling my '85 300D

I am selling my '85 as well as my '81 SD. Both have ice cold ac and are a blast to drive. I'm asking $2,500 for the 300D and $2,300 for the SD. I have already purchased a '94 E320 wagon and I'm looking at another diesel. I will be taking pictures of the 300D for posting right away and re-posting my SD. If you are interested in Atlanta, PM or email me and I'll give you my cell phone # to discuss it.

I just drove the 300D on an 1,100 mile round trip and it was great. I got a high of 26 mpg and a low of 23; running from 65 - 85 mph.

Let me know if you're interested.

Im still looking. Man Ive driven some *****ty 126’s lately…theres one up on buford hwy, the guy only wants $800 for it, but its got cheetah interior, smokes like an atom bomb, and acceleration is in the inches per minute category. I think Ive taken 10yrs off my life just driving some of these things..LOL.

Right now Im really looking for a 123-124 turbo diesel. The 126 is just too big and lumbering. Unless the ones Ive been driving are missing 4 of the cylinders or something. Its dangerous trying to merge into Atlanta traffic!

Anyway, if anyone knows of a good 123-124, let me know!! Thanks.

I'm not sure why I'm posting this.... 'cause I thought I wanted it.....
but it does seem to fit your criteria, and I wouldn't actually buy a diesel. I've not seen the car- just saw the ad yesterday. Not my car- don't know anyone involved.

Hope it's good for everyone

Automatic
Ice cold A/C
MB Tex
Sunroof
Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo
263k miles
Nearly new tires
Oil and filter just changed
Transmission filter and fluid changed
Fuel, Power steering filters and fluid changed
All books and records
This car runs and drives super. The engine has great power, starts right up. The tranny shifts smooth and confident. The inside is very clean. The outside is still nice and shinny and is the original paint. Yes we have a current Georgia title. I use this car as my daily driver 7 days per week.
I recently installed a new compressor, expansion valve and drier. You should be good for a long time with Ice Cold A/C.
30 pics so be patient while they load

shlomo is about 3 posts below this one heh heh, if you go to diesel discussion you can see EVERY issue he has or has had in the past 6 months.

im not going to lie when dealing with this car-- the car isnt perfect, but it is a good driver and has been very reliable(once i fixed the fuel issue)

i have driven the car 10,000 miles since january 19th and have very much enjoyed it! you can find a cheaper diesel, you can find a more expensive one just as easily, the price is firm, i just want to move on, not make a mint on it!

still looking....in or around atlanta...

do you guys think $3k is too much for an 84 300 SD, 150k engine, 80k trans, new rad, some new other stuff (thermostat, HG, ect..), all options work except cruise control, runs well, drives pretty good, feels like it may need wheel bearings cuz its kinda harsh above 80 or so...

just wondering b/c I can buy it but dont really want to spend $3k on my 1st vege conversion car (incase i screw it up!)...

also, any thoughts on the cruise not working? Im told its the amplifier, a $500 part...I need cruise working, this bus is going to be for long hauls only.
