Very nice '84 300D For Sale

I hate to put this car up for sale but it has become necessary. Asking price is $5000. This is a very nice 300D. 99% rust free. Color is Palomino inside and out. This car spent the majority of its life in El Paso and Las Vegas. I am the third owner. I bought the car in 2003. I have complete maintenance and repair records dating back to '84. Almost all of the work was done by MB dealerships. 161,000 miles on the odometer. Engine is strong and you only notice a little smoke at night in the headlights behind you under firm acceleration. Car does not emit smoke going down the highway. Timing chain stretch is 1 degree. 25 mpg on the highway with A/C on and 22 in town. Alda has never been tampered with. Starts good down to 20 degrees F. I haven't started it colder than that. I do not have any data on compression. I have some recent oil analysis data if you are interested. I get one drop of oil on the driveway about every other time it is driven. Oil usage is about one quart in 2500 miles. Transmission does not flare and has nice firm shifts. Using Redline synthetic fluid in the tranny and there are no leaks. The body has some minor dents and dings. There is a small spot of surface rust the size of a dime on the fenders over both rear wheels. It is only on the surface. No holes or rusty flakes. There is very minor surface rust around the jack up holes. There is some touch up paint on the left front fender and drivers door where someone rubbed the car against something. No visible rust in this area. Crawling underneath the car shows the undercoating and paint is intact. Car is very clean underneath. There was surface rust under the battery tray. This area was recently cleaned up and treated with POR 15. Tires are Michelin and are about 50% remaining. Brakes are about 50% remaining. Trunk is in great shape and very clean but I get a little water leaking in after a rain. I use a sponge to wipe it out after each rain. The sunroof functions normally and does not leak. I never find any moisture on the floorboards. Interior is almost perfect except for a small hole the size of a dime in the MB Tex drivers seat back. Drivers seat is not worn out but it does slightly lean to the left. Passenger seat and backseat are perfect. The netting storage on the back of the drivers seat is damaged. Power windows work and the glass is tinted. A/C functions normally but is not quite ice cold. It's cools sufficently until it gets up to around 100 degrees outside. This car does not have an auxillary radiator fan. To be honest, I don't know why one is needed. I have been stuck in stop and go traffic with A/C on and the outside temp over 100 degrees F. and the temperature guage just barely moves above the normal operating temp. I have never seen the water temp rise above 95 degrees C. Oil pressure guage reads 2 bar at operating temp and idling in gear. New battery last winter. Car goes down the road very nicely. A very small touch of play in the steering and just a very slight pull to the right. Very comfortable ride over rough road. Front suspension is tight and there are no abnormal noises.

This is a very nice car with a few minor problems. My $5000 price tag is firm. Please do not hesistate to ask questions. I will be happy to provide any specific photos you may want, the VIN #, or my phone number by email. I am located in Oklahoma City. Sorry, I can't figure out how to get my photos attached. Files are too large. jamesnrenee8@cox.net

price reduction

I am reducing the asking price to $4500.

Surely somebody wants a nice, solid, nearly rust free 300D with a documented history. This car has a long life ahead of it.

Pics, please.

Hi. You mentioned this car in my WTB post. It's not exactly what I'm looking for. I'm really wanting something cheap (due to cosmetics, not mechanical). I've been in the process of restoring an old 300D, but need a new trans. I'm wanting something to rip a tran out of, then parts out the rest. However, I do know several people looking for old Mercedes or just Diesels in general. If you send me a few pics, I'll print them out along with your first two posts, and see if there are any hits. Sound good? I'd really like to see your car go to someone who'll take care of it (and hopefully burn a little bean in it).
