WTB: Diesel in MI

Must be in running condition, but most flaws accepted.

I have a 1981 300sd for sale. The transmission is a factory reman. The engine either has been rebuilt or has had a new head put on it- not sure which. Engine blow-by is minimal, and it runs good. I replaced the b-2 piston in the tranny and it shifts fine. Car has 304k miles on it. I am located near Cleveland Ohio- not sure if this would be too far for you. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it up to Mi. I would like to get 1100.00 for it. If you're interested, I will get you pictures.

WANT '71 280SEL 08-22-2006 06:34 PM

I have an 87 300SDL for sale in Ft. Wayne, IN which is about 45 across the MI border. I would like $3300 for it. There is an ad here that I just placed. I also am selling an '84 190D 2.2 with a 5 speed manual. It was in a minor accident and needs the ignition cylinder replaced. The key won't turn so the car would have to be towed. Let me know if you're interested in either of them.

Thanks
David

Sorry, but $3300 is far to high for me. I hope she finds a good owner, though.

I'd hate to ask, but what else is wrong with it?

Did you look at the ad here? There is one that is about 1 day old which goes into all the details. The main thing it needs is a left tail light assembly and a FL turn signal assembly. The thing keeping it from being driven is the fact that it needs the ignition tumbler cylinder, which I have from the dealer so it matches all the keys. I really just want to get rid of it to be honest. I was hoping to have it sold within a week or so.

Thanks
David

I'll gladly take it off your hands, if it was driveable.

Still interested.

$2,000, high.

I'm looking at another form member's car right now, but would still like to shop around.

Monomer 09-18-2006 10:03 AM

Still looking.

I'd like to keep it under $3000 (after title and plates/registration)

1992 300D 2.5 Turbo

I'm in Metro Detroit and will in a few days be ready to part with my 1992 300D 2.5 Turbo. Later this week I'll complete the purchase of something newer and fancier to replace it with. Lots of miles: passed 409,000 just this morning.

There are a few issues with the car and I'll gladly detail them all for you, but please know that it's my daily driver and has been for 4 years (excepting this winter while it had to sit while I waited for the weather to improve to replace the oil pan).

Specs:
409,000 miles and still going strong
Light gold color with tan leather interior
Automatic trans
A/C
Tires are brand new (<800 miles)
Head gasket replaced 1 year ago this month (at 402k, if I recall correctly)
No body damage, paint is in good shape.
Sunroof
I've got some spare parts that I'll throw in for you (oil filters, fuel filters, brake pads, brake rotors, some misc stuff that I can't recall right now, they're at home)

The good stuff:
31 to 33 mpg overall very consistently
Runs and drives well
I'm starting to think that this car can't be killed

The bad stuff:
Cruise works 1/2 the time (vacuum problem, I believe)
Cracked windshield
Minor rust on LH rear wheel well
Drivers seat outside bolster is in rough shape, so is the top of the steering wheel.
Won't downshift to 1st gear - this sounds bad but it really isn't. These cars are designed to start in 2nd gear for better fuel economy but will go into 1st if you press the pedal all the way down, engaging the kickdown switch. This feature has never worked for me, it's either the switch under the carpet that's bad or the solenoid on the trans. Neither are a big deal to fix, but I never felt the need. The result is that the car is not too quick off the line, but once you get rolling, there are no ill effects. The other result probably is some pretty good gas mileage.
A/C didn't work this summer. I believe it to be an electrical problem because the system has no leaks and is fully pressurized, just the compressor won't kick on - or perhaps the clutch.
The fuel shutoff vacuum valve is bad and it doesn't always shut down the engine on the first try. I just turn the key back on and off again and it shuts off. I have the replacement valve to put in, but I've just never done it.

I bottomed out last December and punched a hole in the oil pan (you can look up my calls for help on this forum under my username) and waited for the weather to break before I replaced it. Having idled for a short time with no oil, I was worried about the condition of the engine, plus it sat for 4 months or so. But, after all that, she started right up, chugged out some smoke for a few minutes, but it subsided and it has run flawlessly since.

I work in Rochester Hills and will be driving the car to work Thursday and Friday of this week only, then the plates go onto my new car. So if you're near Detroit and would like to see it during the day, we can arrange that before Friday. After that, you'd have to come to Holly to see it because it will no longer be registered

My price range is well within your budget. If you're interested, please let me know.
