1991 300E Black W/Silver

I bought this car recently hoping it could replace my 16v. It is an extremely nice car,and has been well cared for during it's 275k miles. It has some minor cosmetic flaws, but it is a beautiful car. This car has been seen at many Chicago area GTG, and no one can believe the milage. I just had the cylinder head, water pump, and belt tensioner done (Pinnicle Automotive). The interior has one hole in the drivers seat bolster, but I can provide another seat if needed. It will be sold with the original wheels; the BBS RG's that presently reside on the car can be included for the full asking price. Ask me anything about the car, and I will tell you the truth. I have sold many cars on this forum, and they all speak for themselves. The asking price is $4000 obo. However, I know what the car is worth, the body is pristine. chandler96@netzero.net for specific pictures.

no offense..but i have bought several w124s with half the mileage for less than you are asking..

i would have to see a tranny rebuild receipt, some a/c work, and other stuff before i could give you 2.5k.... a lot of stuff is reaching the end of its economic life.

I respect your opinion. However, you fail to mention the caliber of car you are refering to. You have also not looked at the cars I've owned prior to this, or the quality of them.

Remember opinions are like bellybuttons, I don't need yours.

Luxery Motors(Bentley) doesn't release that information. However, I do know that the car was titled to the same woman since 1993. I looked at cars listed for sale within 200 miles of me 13 to be exact, this one has the nicest body I could find. It drove the best, pulled hardest, and basicly looked brand new.

A forum is for conversation and sharing of thoughts. So whether you like it or not here is my belly button.

Does it snow in Chicago? Do they salt the roads? Assuming this car lived in
the snowbelt, and has 275,000 miles it has some rust. That will be the exhaust system, the suspension components, and will be evident in the front of the car in and around the engine compartment.

No service records? What about the transmission at 275,00 miles? The only way that car makes sense iis with records so that it can be determined exactly what has been replaced. A/C is guaranteed to have failed at least once on that car over it's long life.

I have two sitting in my drive right now. '92 Sportline with 244K on it.
Many many things replaced, rebuilt. Thousands of dollars. I also have a '93 Sportline bought on a whim on e-Bay. You would not believe the stack of dealer receipts ( $36,000 worth of invoices). I also had a '90 300E from 100K to 175K same story, predictable.

Good luck selling it at that price.

Steve

Thanks for reminding me what a forum is. Classifieds are not Forums. If you don't have anything constructive to say... Oh wait you've never seen the car why waste my time acknowledging anything you have to say.

Don't know why you are so sensitive to questions. The answers are obvious. You know people posting cars for sale on a Forum , E-bay, or anywhere should be prepared to be challenged, discuss the car, and answer specific questions.

You remind me of a former acquaintance of mine. If you asked him a question he didn't like, he would look you straight in the eye and act like you hadn't spoken. Quite a personality trait.

If your silly little childhood saying, "If you don't have anything constructive to say then don't say anything at all." was commonplace the world would be a very strange and boring place. You used the word constructive. What you mean is constructive to your cause (selling this car). My comments are, hopefully, constructive and cautionary to others. Might be a great car, might not. Inquiring minds want straight answers not spin.

Caveat Emptor is always a good thought to retain.

Just re-read your post.

The classifieds are a sub-section of the Shop Forum. Using your logic anything in the classifieds should be somehow be closed off from posts either negative or positive. Quite an amazing conclusion.

Actually, not so amazing. I take it you are in car sales. Think you said you have sold quite a few. I have rarely, found people, who sell cars to be exactly be forthcoming with as Paul Harvey would say, "The rest of the story."

Of course my set of experiences is quite limited. I avoid car lots and car salesman at almost any cost. The salesman who sold me my latest purchase, '97S320, knew zip about the car. Luckily it had a full set of dealer records, or I would have run away very fast.

Steve,
The problem wasn't what you ask, but how you ask. Your post is combative. I am not pushing my car on anyone, mearly offering for sale. I am not a car salesman/dealer, rather a Mercedes lover. Your posts do not ask a question they make a statement. "This car is over the hill." That is not a statement you can make from where you are. You have no personal interest in the car, why make any comment at all? I personally have better things to do then troll the internet asking questions about stuff I have no interest in.
I have sold 4 cars on here in the last 5 years. I've owned more then 30 in that time, all titled in my name personally.
All,
That said I can only go off my personal usage of this car 12K+ miles. The air blows cold, and the trans shifts like a TH350. It needs and EHA valve, but I'll have that on in the next day or so.

My $0.02

Interesting that you did not mention the EHA valve until challenged.

Good luck with the sale.

Talk about combative. You wrote, "I personally have better things to do then troll the internet asking questions about stuff I have no interest in."

How do you reach that conclusion? I am just participating in one of two forums I belong to. I don't troll. I think I am free to ask questions about anything I care to ask about. By protesting so much, you
are broadcasting a reluctance to answer questions about this car. You are not helping your cause.

You see I have always had the courage to be blunt and ask hard questions. Not combative, just to the point. 20 years of Fortune 500 management, and 10 years of consulting helping others to better manage their business has firmed up my conclusion that one of the biggest problems in business, and in society is the reluctance to ask difficult questions fearing it might hurt someone's feelings, or make waves. People don't ask, and therefore get a false picture of the situation. This cautious approach is particularly harmful during employee performance evaluations. Timid managers can't bring themselves to tell like it is. The employee goes along year after year thinking everything is great. Then they get fired for sub-standard performance. Can't tell you how many times I've witnessed this.

I recently, last week, was in a small operation where the owner (125K a year) guy was out in the plant running a machine. He had been running it for 3 weeks. I'm his new paid consultant. This was my first day on-site. I asked him what in the hell he was doing running a machine. He really didn't like the question. He got kind of mad at me. He couldn't answer the question. I asked him to think about it overnight. Next morning he apologized, and said he would immediately find someone to run the machine. He doesn't like managing and was avoiding it. I call it the head in the sand syndrome.
Very common among sales guys who end up running their own show.

You might just consider thinking about my questions, and why you view them as combative. They are only combative if you choose to take them that way.

And finally, please don't presume to tell me what I can or can't write. You really don't have the slightest bit of power in the matter.

Noted. Funny I see a shop owner putting at least 25k back in his pocket. In my experience Management is made up of people who you can afford to lose when your actually doing the job. While they are asking "blunt" questions I'm busy getting the job done. You can't afford to promote someone like me, nothing will get done. Retorical questions are combative. They require no answer, they only waste time. You have wasted enough of mine.-Andy

EHA Valves take 7 minutes to change, including getting tools out and cleaning up. I could change one before I hung up the phone with a perspective buyer.

It is too bad people want to bash this car without checking it out. It really is extremely nice. Good luck
