Up until last summer this was my daily driver. The time has come to move it out of my driveway. I have more cars than drivers in the house and one of them (cars not drivers) has to go. The SD has been parked in the drive since it failed to crank one morning. Since I was "downsized" by my employer I have not been in the position to spend money on getting it fixed. The problem seems to be with the starter itself. This would be a good deal for someone with another W116 in need of parts or perhaps to be fixed and driven. I also have a lot of spare parts for the W116 that can be yours if you buy the car. Asking $500. Send me an email or PM with any questions.

. How's the interior?

I'm guessing the engine doesn't spin at all? You will get a lot more interest if you can verify that the engine can be rotated by hand.

Tymbrymi thanks, I will let you know. After your question I went outside and put a ratchet on the crankshaft and could turn the engine over just fine. The problem with the car not starting is that after you glow the plugs, when you turn the key to the start position nothing happens. No clicks, no sounds, nothing. I think the issue is with the starter itself or the key switch.

The interior is in decent shape, the dash has the usual cracks and the rear seat back horsehair pad is bad. I replaced the rear seat bottom and also have the original seat bottom springs with another cover in the same color. If I would not have a problem with my neighbors, I would part out the car and get more than my asking price. But I don't think the neighbors would appreciate my project. By the way the tires on the ground are like new Goodyear Assurance P195 70R14. The tires plus five (four on the ground and one spare) bunt cake wheels alone would cover a large part of the asking price. I also have a second heavy duty battery and a lot of other W116 parts that go with the car. Obviously this is a used car that is now 28 years old, but I loved to drive it and it always made a statement. The Mercedes-Benz award badge on the grill goes with the car.

Put the car in neutral and try again. It might be the P/N lockout switch.

When it first happened I had the same thought and ruled out the lockout switch. I would bet that the problem is with the starter key switch or the starter.

Heck, someone ought to go get this car...you could tow-start it and drive it home I bet. For $500 it seems like the deal of the day.

The car is still available. Ether was interested but could not work out the arrangements to add another vehicle to his fleet. So other fans of the W116 can still pick up a good deal.
