217,456 on the clock. Overall the interior is in decent shape and is in the Bamboo color. The horsehair pad is bad on the rear seatback. I replaced the seat bottom with a seat from another car. I still have the original cover and springs for the back seat and all it needs is a new pad. I also have available another front seat bottom. The carpet is good. The dash has the normal cracks for this model and age car. The seals on the front and rear windshields need replaced, so in a heavy rain they will leak some.

What's with the driver side hood shutline? Accident damage repair or just not closing properly on that side? Also. Any thorogh closeup pics of the rust under the car behind the front wheel arches and under the floor mats?

I have owned the car for six years. The prior owner of the car several years ago had a small fender bender at the front edge of the passenger side fender where it comes to a point above the turn signal lens. The damage was so small that it did not require the fender to be replaced. It looks like they simply bent it back in place. That may have something to do with the hood allignment. It may also simply need to be adjusted to line up better when closed.
The last time I looked there was no rust under the floor mats. The obvious rust is on the right rear portion of the front right fender (as shown in the photos) and below the wrap around bumper on the sides of the back fenders. Not sure about any rust under the car behind the front wheel arches. As you most likely know the W116 is prone to rust and this car is no exception.

Hey guys, I went and took a look at this car the other day and for $500 I don't see how you can go wrong. I had hoped to be able to make room for it but alas was unable to do so.
Shoot, if you never got it running it's worth it for parts alone. Tony represents the car fairly and it's my guess that it won't take a lot to get it running.

Knock on the starter, and if nothing else use a screw drive across the terminals and see if the starter will spin and start the car. Could just be a bad starter.

C'mon guys...he's asking just over scrap prices for it and you want photos and a description of every square inch? Tough Crowd, indeed.
I'd bet if he put it on ebay he'd probably get twice what he's asking here.

I concur
with Nhdoc - had I not the very legitimate concern that my wife would divorce me.....I'd be headed down south right now. $500 is a screaming deal.

Thanks guys for all the positive comments. I am happy to answer any questions. I recognize that if the car was running it would go for a much higher price. Since I am looking for a job presently, I need the room in the drive and money more than the car. I have had several other MBZ cars previously and still have the C280, so I will stay around on this forum.
It is important to me that whoever buys the car can be happy with the deal. I know I could get more for the car if I parted it out, but I just don't want to tick off my neighbors in the process. It is my opinion that the car could live on. It appears to me that the problem with getting the car to run is either the starter or the key switch. But even if you did not get it running, the chrome, tires, wheels, servo, and other parts would bring more than I am asking.

OK, here is the latest regarding the starting problem. I am now fairly sure the problem is a bad starter. Today I placed a jumper wire over the posts on the starter solenoid and it is getting power but the starter does not turn over. I already turned the engine over manually using a socket on the crankshaft, so the engine should be fine. It would appear to me that the starter/solenoid is bad and needs replaced.
The good new is you can purchase a Bosch reman starter for less than $170. If you shop around I have found them offered at less than $150 with free shipping. I think once the starter is replaced the car can once again take to the road. If my situation was different and I needed a third car, I would have the starter replaced and keep the car.

It's a real shame that I did not see this post when I was in Atlanta last week. I drove a 16 foot truck home and would have loved for this to be on a trailer behind it.
