FS: HAMMER 300TE 6.0

not mine, but I have personally seen the car & know the Indie mechanic who has been working on it.... outstanding mechanic (just overhauled my M103 in an '88 300CE
Now on eBay.

Personally, I have been trying to figure out how I can drum up the cash to take it. It is a glorious machine.

I agree. I remember what that car was new, quite a machine.

I am a little disappointed in the quality of the re-paint from the photos however, I'd have to budget for the paint job it deserves.

I always wanted that car, but it's not meant to be. Good thing I have my SL AMG in which to drown my sorrows.

They couldn't afford to spend for the headlight trims when they put the Euros in. That is just lame.

That is a very cool TE. I know it's a rare beast and all but doesnt it seem like a $34000 car should be pretty clean? Im pretty picky when it comes to interior though. Awesome car... I hope it goes to someone who will drive it.

... or for the wipers and motors like it should have also??

Corners cut on a car asking that kind of money worries me about why it might be for sale and whether it's been "in trouble" which can cost big $$ down the road.

Here we go again...

I put in an offer last time, and it was declined. I want this car, but the price is not realistic IMO. It needs some things to be worth what they want.

I'd like to know why it was completely repainted and why all the brake lines etc. where replaced. Sounds like either rust issues, an accident, or someone was joyriding it and damaged the underside. Pretty much everything AMG did to make it a Hammer has been messed with since.

Beyond that, it is on the short list of cars of the late 1900s that I really lust after.

How do you even price this? 20K? 25K? Is 34k an arbitrary number someone just came up with?
It's probably petty cash for the affluent and alike, but most interested parties are more than likely MB enthusiasts... and 30k-34k is a big chunk of change for 99% of us.

NOWAY[/quote]

I can see how this would be of logical concern, but in defense I can also say that there are some people (like me) who just want everything perfect.
Example: I just bought a really premium 1988 300CE from the original owner w/65,000 miles on it. However, the husband died last year & the car sat in the garage for about 13 months with only short starts/drives. I bought it, took it to my Indie & there was both AT & Short Block (Head on M103) leaking. Did the car need the $8850 worth of work I just spent on it? In my eyes, yes, because I want the car to run & look like it is no more than 3 years old.
I, like many others, dump too much money into these cars - not spending the money to hide or cover anything, but to get as close to perfection as is possible. Things do get left off (like HL wipers etc.) for trivial reasons...

The bottom line (from my perspective) is - pricing scrutiny is one thing, but declaring "no way" when you have never seen the car seems a bit provincial.

I have visited the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart four times & can tell you for a fact that there are flaws on those cars in there too. The fact here is, unless the car was kept in a time capsule - you are going to find flaws & people are always going to try & recover their personal investments no matter how out of guage they may seem.

As a perfectionist myself, I agree with that. If it was repainted and those parts replaced to make the car 100%, that's fine. Has anyone here seen it in person?

Yes Sir, I have seen the car numerous times & with the engine running (did not drive it...).
A lot of extensive work was done, but for the right reasons. I do know that much.

If I were buying it I would need to focus on the items that some have already mentioned here in previous threads - but I would be buying it knowing fully certain that the heavy & routine mechanicals have all be professionally addressed.

I am told be people who did drive it that it is everything you expect & hope it would be - - no exceptions.

I am so tempted by the Hammer that I was thinking of selling my E55 to come up with the remaining cash to grab it. But I have too much invested & will loose too much (not to mention it will take a long time to sell it....) now in my E55,300CE, 300D and my family apparently needs to eat that I have had to take some additional medication to remind myself that I can not swing it right now. . . so, I am sitting out on it (for now).

Okay, the cuffs and collars have to match.

If one were to rebuild the engine and trans, and repaint the car because he were trying to achieve perfection, why would he leave cracked wood on his dash, and settle for a mediocre paint job?

Personally I'd love to have the car. Can't justify it, and for that money there are many cars I'd rather have & drive. But for an enthusiast/collector who has to add it to a collection, or what a way to run for parts for the DB5 & Gullwing, or take the dog to the groomer.

Sorry but for that kind of money,

1) it should be DOHC

2) the interior should be spotless

Cool car, but they will have difficulty finding their market at that condition and price point. Plenty of folks willing to shell out well more than that for a Hammer wagen, but the finish is just not there. I would venture to guess that it would sell very quickly in the low 20's, comparably priced to excellent 500e's. Hell, a w124 E60 sold about a year ago for low/mid 20's
