For sale is my beloved ’91 300E. This car has 194K miles, but has been maintained carefully. Car was sold new at Dale Sharp Mercedes-Benz, and has been in the Topeka, Ks area ever since. I purchased it in late June of 2007 with 191,181 miles. VIN #WDBED30D5MB361893. I have a recent carfax showing three owners previous to me. I personally have known the last two owners. This car is a factory 4-Matic, but the 4-Matic system on this car does NOT work.

I came upon the car because it needed someone to save it. Owner #3 stopped driving it after just about a year or so because the head gasket blew and he had hit a deer on the passenger side front (a light hit---I have the photo’s). I had the car flat-bedded to my home where I started to breath some life back into the car. I located a passenger fender, turn signal lens, and headlight assembly.

Here is a list of items replaced during my ownership of this 300E (I have receipts):

Headgasket/Tune-Up: $1,403.78
New OEM Radiator: $166.71
Transmission Fluid/ Filter Service ~$60
New Fuel Filter

New Air Filter
New Wiper Blade
New Transmission Cooler Lines: ~$40
Turn Signal Switch: $135.47
Turn Signal Lens: $40.59
New Bosal OEM Exhaust Cat-Back: $438
New Sunroof Slide Angles: $280
JVC CD Deck: $91.28
Bodywork Repainting the Front Right Fender: $550

Of the above repairs, most are without labor costs as I did the repairs myself. Labor on the sunroof job alone would easily be in the many hundreds of dollars.

The car doesn’t leak or smoke or consume any oil that I have noticed. I run Mobil 1 synthetic. Air has been converted to R-134 and blows cold. This car runs like a top and loves the open highway.

Included will be some early service receipts of the first owner. Also, I have the owner’s manual. The car only has one key. This car had a sticker price when new of over $53K.

The Negatives: The turn signal switch I installed started malfunctioning shortly after I installed it. It runs the wipers and brights great and blinkers great as well, but it will rarely return on a left turn (so you have to manually shut it off). The front speakers don’t work on the radio (probably just need to be hooked-up). This car has the usual reverse delay of about one second. Always gives me reverse, and runs perfectly through all the forward gears. The paint work I had done was just quick and dirty. If you look closely, there are minor imperfections.

The stock 15 inch rims have brand new Falken Ziex ZE-512’s mounted and balanced. The AMG style rims on the car now have Michelin Pilot rubber that only has maybe 25% life left. If you want to keep the AMG style rims, please add $350 to the price of the car, you will of course get to keep the stock rims and brand new tires either way. I will also include several oil filters for this car with the sale.

I have had a lot of fun “restoring” this car into a beautiful, classic driver. I will be very sad to see it go and I want it to go to someone that will look after it. Only reason I am selling is to make room for a roadster of some type (either an SL or Porsche). If you have specific questions, please contact me at 785-230-4994. I prefer to sell the car to a Mercedes enthusiast. The price for the car is $2,650 firm. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a 300E this well sorted out for what I’m asking. Remember, if you want the rims, they are $350 extra. No Trades or Offers, Please. Title is clear and in-hand.

Thank You,

-Grant Holthaus

How am I supposed to nit-pick this ad and make snide comments?

People like this take all the fun out of classified ads. I guess he actually wants to sell the car.

Good luck, looks like a nice car for a nice price!

I just sold my '92 for $2500. It wasn't this nice... And it had a salvage title. This car is a steal, if you ask me!

Wow. Indeed a very good price. Nice ride!

I agree with all the above comments.

Finally a well written ad with good photos and description.

The price seems very fair to me, and I absolutely love the wheels.

The Car SOLD today to a local buyer for $3000. He was the very first one to come and have a look. I am happy that it's going to a good home.

Thanks,
