1980 240D 52,000 Miles! Columbia, MO

Craigslist: No affiliation, i have not seen this car; but pics Looks nice. The ad copy sounds foreign and kind of surreal,... Quote from ad " the Mercedes 240D is a champion steed and was touted to be the most powerful diesel car to ever roll out"......... also dig those white walls! ;)Pricey @ $9500. But hey....

This car was purchased by someone who was looking at my car. I wish I could have seen it with my own eyes. If I'd have found this car earlier I would have paid full price and driven it everyday. I can't believe a car like this was in my own backyard and I missed it. It truly makes me ill.

Damn, that's a nice car.

Very impressive. Looks awesome but a 240 auto...ha, pass. Is it me or are those tires real skinny?

Palangi 12-02-2009 08:56 PM

The tires sort of look like the original Continentals.

86560SEL 12-02-2009 08:59 PM

Looks like the tires read Michelin. Nice car though!

They might be!:D:eek:

Damn that car is nice, its worth every cent of the asking price.

yellowbenz 12-02-2009 10:43 PM

I'll let you know about it. I'm going to check it out on Saturday weather permitting.

Yep, Michelins. I just looked at the pictures on the link.

Mr.Kenny 12-03-2009 10:54 AM

Hey Yellowbenz; In your post you said it was sold.....did you mean it was sold some time ago to the present owner? Do you know how much he bought it for?
Hey everyone; if you read the Ad, it indicates "newer Michelins".
This is a very tempting car;.... just think how long it would last....... If you bought a new Honda or Toyota today, this 240D could easily outlast them if it wasn't wrecked..... AND it's becoming a "Vintage Mercedes"....(who am I fooling; IT IS A VINTAGE MERCEDES.)

yellowbenz 12-03-2009 07:33 PM

I thought this was the original add for this car, but actually the guy who was going to buy my car bought this car instead and is now going to resell it here. He bought it elsewhere (guessing it was Kentucky) and trailered it back to Missouri. I hope the car is legit. Plan to see it tomorrow or Saturday. Will report back. Kind of ironic that I mentioned to this fellow during his test drive of my car that I have always wondered what these cars were like when new. Guess I'll find out.

Man, I love me some black Mercedes. And on a 123? Pfft...fuw-getta bout it! :notworthy:

Mr.Kenny 12-03-2009 11:26 PM

With the European headlights, I wonder if this was a grey market car; and someone changed out the instrument cluster to read in miles and MPH.......but very low miles.....? I would be very, very suspect before seriously selling this car to yourself. A higher mileage 240D can look very nice cleaned up; like those 'hippie guys' in California seem to be able to do.

compu_85 12-04-2009 12:05 PM

It has US tail lights, US turn signals, and I don't see the dial on the dash for the headlight range adjustment... looks like someone just put euro headlights on. The plastic on the tail lights is not faded at all (notice how clear / white the reverse lights are?)... they haven't seen much sun.

The euro headlights worry me. Mileage is always suspect. I hope the years I've spent here and the experience with buying my other three MB diesels keeps me out of trouble. Must use head and not heart in this purchase. Not always easy when you lust for the ultimate W123.
