Bruce and I see eye-to-eye on this one; at $25k, I think the value is about as low as they'll go. Up is the only alternative. If the cars are good, they're solid "investments".

It's all about the engines, though, they need to be thoroughly inspected. If they leak, or the heads are warped, or whatever, they're toast.

I would be very surprised if the seller would take $25K each.
Believe they are Aaron Ruskin's cars.
He owns a W124, C124, S124 6.0L Hammers.
He was asking $48K for the W124 last year.
The S124 started life as a Canadian delivery diesel and was modded by Westmont.
The other two if I recall came out of BHMA.

The entertainment value is what's been bringing my father and I back every year. The atmosphere is electrifying.

Right now all I am is a guy with a hobby that pays for itself. I have a good job, and have to decide which direction to go when I finally get the useless piece of paper in the spring. Job Security, but mundane work vs. fun job, but alot more risk and allowing my hobby to completely consume me. I'm still on the fence.

I will not be there when the Hammers go on the block Mid-day Thursday. Thursday afternoons won't be drawing the crowds, and Barrett Jackson is more of a muscle car venue. Someone will have to go to that auction wanting to buy those cars specifically. Two someones at least to drive the price up. I doubt the dealers around during the slow days Tues-Thurs looking for bargains will bite, or an uninformed retiree.

If I had these cars and wanted to put them in an auction, B-J would not have been my first choice. I think Bonhams and a major Mecum auction would have more individuals who would see these as appreciating collectibles. The seller may just be sick of trying to sell them, and wants it to all be over. This is certainly the largest and best known venue, and often the final bid is someone far away from Scottsdale on the phone with a representative or bidding online. With the weak dollar, there may be some folks in Europe watching with hopes to bringing these cars back to the fatherland.

I'm not going to make any predictions. One thing I've discovered with this auction is nothing is predictable. People on emotion will pay stupid amounts of money, and bargains slip through just as regularly during the slow times.

well, enjoy the show. and i'm sure you'll pick up more knowledge/experience/etc. i think they used to show these on espn? and i recall lots of american iron of the 60's, and a few euro/exotics, and some bidding that occasionally got out of hand?

(and if you can pick up a cheap "64 or "65 300se coupe with a stick, well.. on second thought, i couldn't even afford the distributor cap. )

It went to a good home...

in/near Atlanta.

I recall seeing it on the forums for awhile as a discussion regarding the owner's wish to sell.

I think Jono ended up paying about what the guy was asking a year or so ago.

He's the right guy (or gal - don't mean to be politically incorrect ) to take care of it.

Regards,
K

P.S. - Bruce, did ya see my other posts (here and bw)?

Auctions...

Tyler -

As we say down here - Boy Howdy! (unpredictable).

I missed a '64 220SEB Cab by not being registered in advance here at the Kruse auction back in October on No Reserve Sunday. I didn't see it until it was in line for the gavel meister...the ATM in the Reliant Center lobby would only give me $400. I was $20 short of being able to bid

Tan on green; a 5+ interior, 6 to 7 exterior.

It got away for $19,500.

The AMG engine and suspension goodies would be nice all right, but all that plastic cladding really cheapens the car. I'd take the clean look of yours anyday. [with AMG goodies under the hood]
