1984 Euro 240D 4 speed original owner $8000

First off I'm relying on you folks to let me know if I'm way out of line on the price. You have to start somewhere. As told to me by another member the price of $8000 is not reasonable and I cannot edit the title so the price is now set at $6000 as of now. I bought this car from the original owner who imported it immediately from Belgium after he bought it. That means there is no rust. He lived in the high desert of California as well so it's been dry all of it's life. Tehachapi to be exact. I have all the original shipping paperwork and certificates that make this car legal in the USA. The documents show the date of import as well. I did not register this car yet so whoever buys it will be the 2nd owner. Everything on this car is original except for the factory rebuilt motor with the tags to prove it. The wife hit a parking block and put a hole in the oil pan of the original motor, hence the rebuild. Also note the crease in the drivers door that happened when the desert wind took the door out of his had and over rotated. I was either going to have the door repaired or just put another one on. Since I bought the car 3 weeks ago I have done allot of maintenance to make sure that it's ready to go. New alternator, flushed radiator, new belts, brake pads all around, discs look good, re packed bearings, new belts, new thermostat, coolant, injection pump timing, new glow plugs, new fuel lines, all lights work including "city lights", new Pioneer radio with ipod control, vacuum door locks work properly, adjustable headlights work but have a vacuum leak in the switch so I'm looking for a new one. The car is your typical bare bones Mercedes, no power windows to break, no rear speakers, no automatic transmission to go bad, no sunroof to leak, and best of all it did not come with AC so you don't have to worry about that either. The car is really light and handles great. Very nimble as compared to my 300CD. Color is 751 ascot grey (liasgrau). Car has 229K, motor has 120K. I have too many cars so either the 300CD or this one has to go. It's hard to decide. I live in L.A. Ca. Thanks

I can't get 2000 for a one owner perfect 240D with a manual so I think 8000 may be unrealistic. Good luck.

Now is not a great time to sell a car for sure. Thanks for the feedback. It seems that I can edit the ad but not the price in the title of the ad. Oh well. Nice yellowbenz by the way.

around 2005, I bought a 1983 240D, stick, with 260k and a few more rust issues for $2000 - I think I paid too much.
I sold it a few years ago with 312k for $500 - dudes came from TN to buy it.

You might want to consider showing the "tauschreggat" tag on the motor and the invoice to show the engine replacement work. I doubt you can get $6k for it. Maybe $3500 if you find the right buyer but you'll need to show documentation of the maintenance to offset the flaws.

I agree, and may even go cheaper than that. Its going to take the right buyer in the right climate to want the car with no AC. Given the door, wonky front bumper, and higher mileage you're not going to attract the type of buyer that pays top dollar for W123s. Rather, it will be the informed enthusiast looking for a driver, or someone new to the game brought in by the bio-fad. Its fairly easy to find a nice 240D 4-speed in the 2-3k range, and euros at the driver condition level don't carry much of a premium.

I didn't notice anything amiss with the bumper? Now I'm nervous about checking the posts! Someone out there tell me something positive about the car just to make me feel good.
I'll add a pic of the engine data plate. Thanks for the idea.

Thumbs up

The car is attractive, and I always enjoy seeing engine bays you can eat off of. Absolutely nothing against the car, just the price. You never know, though. You could get lucky and find an impulse buyer...

Hey, we're all guilty of it.

Throw her on craigslist and see what happens.

A w123 with a 616 that failed and had to have a new engine installed. It was in the high desert so it has no rust- the high deserts of Belgium? Picture of the drivers door looks like its dented.

The engine issue is explained in the posting. As was the door. That is why I have pictures of the door. I will edit the part where it is stated that the owner bought the car in Belgium and had it imported to California. I did not state that it was imported "immediately" after purchase. You are correct, there are no deserts in Belgium. Thanks for the feedback.

Just an fyi, fattyman, this is probably about the worst place you could ask for advice on selling price of a car. Well, maybe not the worst, but people around here are incredibly cheap. Your car looks nice. I'd pay around 4 for it, especially if that door was fixed. Good luck selling!

Thank you for the input. All help is welcome. It seems that Euro cars are not as big of a deal as I thought they would be. Well, at least I like it in case I can't sell it. In L.A. Ca. the W123 cars get a little more money for them. Lots of people want them out here. Lots of junk out here too!

This is right where I am in its value. Since my dd is getting a little rough I might jump on a 240 with a super clean body one of these days. The motor is unimportant since I have a super sound drive train in mine. AC would be nice though.
