1987 420SEL For Sale in Louisville, CO

I've got a 1987 420SEL for sale, its got more than 227910 miles..

Yes, it runs BUT...
It needs a radiator
It sounds like it has a bad lifter
Its been in the family for 20 years and I have LOTS of records
Its been driven by two teenagers in the past 8 years
The body is solid and the panels are straight, the paint however, is original...
Everything is there, but this is really a project / parts car
Asking $1500, but I'm dreaming, Make me an offer...

What to do?

OK, What should I do?
This car has been up here for 6 weeks and more than 100 people have looked at it. I was honest about it's condition, included photos, and was willing to almost give it away.
Is it worthless? Should I just go to the Junk yard?

Where is the car located? It is worth money to the right people. Try Craigslist for increased free exposure.

Thanks for the info,

The car is near Boulder, CO. and it is on Craigslist as well. Just no responses, and I've got to get this off the driveway!

Thanks,
Mark

Unfortunately, I seem to have a car that no one wants. This old 420 goes to the crusher on Friday

:behead:

Seems a shame to send a such a solid car to the crusher. No one has made you an offer?

mdfarrow 09-14-2010 09:18 AM

One nibble, but they made an appointment to see it and never came. Otherwise, nothing...

Thought about donating it for tax write-off? Done it three times over the past five years and not a peep from IRS as long as the value cited is within guidelines of BlueBook, etc.

IRS?

I thought the IRS redid the rules last year, and you can only write off what the car sells for at auction?
I read up on it 2 years ago or something, gave away my old saab 900 turbo, but as I understood, they would send you paperwork after the auction and tell you what the car went for...so no more bluebook (I looked into it via Click and Clack)

Anybody else done this lately?

mdfarrow 09-16-2010 07:14 PM

That's what my CPA told me. No Blue Book, just auction receipt. Unfortunately that makes the car worth more as scrap.
Sure there are no takers? I really don't want this future for the car...

I have often seen people say "of to the crusher", as if it was some sort of a threat. What are you getting from "the crusher" money wise? Come up with a realistic hard # from "the crusher" I just spent 5 minutes looking up a 800# on the internet called and they gave me a quote of$265.

You are telling me if you put it on craigs list for $500 it wouldn't sell? BS. Sorry just caught my of to the crusher nerve.

The "crusher", is a tow company that told me they were selling it for scrap (i.e. the crusher). They offered me $450.00 to tow it away, and yes, I'd sell it to anyone for that...

And so you know, this car has spent 4 months here and on Craigslist with a clear willingness to accept anything reasonable, so at this point, "the crusher" is no threat.

4 months on CL @ $500 an noone bought it.

If you'd spent those recent 6 weeks parting it out on CL and eBay, you would have made more than $450, and you'd still get the scrap value as it is towed away... just my 2c

No argument, just no understanding neighbors...
