OFFERS??????
So far, no one interested....going, going,.......??????????
|
oh I love it... but I can't really spend the money right now.
|
too bad
Too bad, as Palimino interior is nice...slight fading on carpet, but ALL else working and clean. Some cracking on console wood, but all accessories work. Just NO time left to get this one up and running. Tried engine transplant (thanks to all the help from the forum), but engine didn't like new car :)
Would make a good driver for someone. Need to get it moving as it's stored at a repair shop as a favor right now. |
Folks --- I've seen this car; the interior is very nice.
mhin1956 --- you need to post some pics of the front seats. |
constructive criticism - I think $1750 is really hard for us to swallow considering it has a bad engine. I wouldn't expect a penny over $1000 for it and that is optimistic IMO, sorry Mark. I don't doubt that its nice but that is a lot for a non-running MB.

After laying under my TD today and admiring all the holes in the floor I decided that when the time comes I want a very very nice SD(or SDL :P) with a bad engine/transmission. Then I can take all the '85 stuff out of my TD and stuff it in the w126. After driving my '85 TD and my '83 SD I have come to the conclusion that the '85 transmission/rear diff is the only way to go with a 617.
That brown SD of yours is awful purdy. I have a soft spot for poop brown cars....in my heart that is... no where else . I grew up with a poop brown Datsun. Very cool. Just not really in the cards right now for me, sorry. |

Shame you don't have the time for it. Perhaps the third engine would be the charm? ;) |

sad
Really sad that I do not have the time to get this one back up. Shop that did the transfer was not familiar w/ diesels-did a great job, but engine didn't like it's new home I guess. I know I'm asking alot of $$$, but there are alot of new parts and time into car. Transmission IS good and shifts like clockwork. Car was solid and fun to drive. Lots of time and memories in car, but cannot put more time in to get it back. Too busy at work now and with elder relatives.
Thanks for all the input..I know what I have cash in the car-not counting the labor or my time. Just trying to stop a severed artery at this point.... Mark |
really NEED this gone
If anyone knows of someone looking for a good, solid car that is needing an engine, PLEASE make offer or contact. I will have to move this soon!
Mark |
I still wish but not going to happen. Don't let it get junked please.
|
anyone?
going, going...????
PLEASE, I don't want to scrap, (donate) but not much intersest. Car REALLY ran nice..tight, but cannot devote time anymore... |
I really wish I could take this.... I cant afford to stick an engine in it.. this is a perfect project that I look for though... darn
|
Contact member t_walgamuth, I know he was looking for a rust-free project car/shell a short while ago. I don't want to see this one go to the junkyard either, looks exactly like one of my SDs only a hell of a lot nicer.
|
wish I could, but I'm already in the middle of an engine swap. Daw, that thing is close to you too. I could get my seat back on the same trip..
|
PM sent.
|
I am getting up early to go down there and rescue this poor sd.;)
Probably not the wisest thing to do, drove a thousand miles to pick up a (pretty nice) parts car, but you know, I am a benz lovin' fool! |
glad someone saved it!
|
Thank god.

Brown is now a yankee...
TOM THANKS!!!
Hope your trip went well and brown is what (or more) than you expected. Glad to see it go to a good home. Please post when you get done. PM me an address in case I find more "goodies" as I clean garage. PS..Tom, it's actually going to get hotter on Tues/Wed! |
I had a nice time meeting Mark and loading up Brown. It is completely rust free and has a lovely interior. The paint needs help as mark noted originally. I will begin the evaluation process on the motor and see what is wrong with it.
I woke up this morning and before taking off from my Sister's home in Nashville I discovered a flat tire on my trailer, so finding a place to get it fixed was a task on Sunday morning. I ended up driving about 20 miles with one tire on the right side of my trailer going 45 mph on the interstate berm to reacy the nearest Walmart. Other than that the trip was uneventful. Nice car. Thanks Mark!;) Thanks TBO, too!;) |
last time I was indiana was because I drove from NY to Pensacola to pick up a 300se/c parts car that was free and then went due north to indianapolis to pick over the bones of a cheap 280ce that had been tboned and then home. Nothing like a plesant road trip. One that lets you bring home souveniers worth keeping, well, that's just gravy.

Heading for home with the SD up on the trailer, riding pretty, I had this glow of happiness at the purchase that I thought must have been the same feeling that folks used to have when they bagged a big buck and strapped it on the hood of the car to drive home.;)
My amusing thought for the day. |
shucks!!!
I just got back from vacation yesterday afternoon --- would have loved to have helped and met a fellow forum member.
|
Sorry I missed meeting you as well!;)
|
My favorite machinist screwed the last parts on the motor on Monday. It is at my Indies now getting reinstalled. Another week or so and it will be ready! I'd love to get the hitch installed so I can take it to pick up my new reynard autocross car!;)
|
$500 is all i can do!
|
This is my car now and it is not for sale. The motor has been rebuilt and is waiting to be eased down in at my Indie's shop.;) I expect to be using it as a trip car when it is done.
I cannot wait to get my euro lights installed too! |
Tom, Happy New Year
I hope "Braun" is good to you. It did ride well when I had it..still tight and quiet. Let me know if you're passing near or thru; like to see it back on the road! Mark |
Ok. I plan to do something with the paint, not sure what and get it into tip top condition all around. You gave it a good start. Too bad the motor didn't work for you.
I'll post pics for sure. |
Might, just might be able to get a top job, or possibly a recoat of clear..just a thought. Good to hear it's got a good home. Just turned 316k on 300sdl and got 2nd badge!

The motor is in the car now and running fine. He could not test drive it the other day without the wipers because it was snowing pretty good. I am getting a motor and combination switch here tomorrow so next week she should be up and driving!;)
I'm getting excited. I have been taking either my 3/4 ton dodge truck or my wifes (ugh) PT cruiser on trips. This car is slated for trip duty! |
