1987 Mercedes 300D Sedan - 161k Miles

Rolf from Super Turbo Diesel suggested I post here to sell my 1987 300D.

Miles: 161,000
Presently in Kansas City, Missouri (31st and Flora)
Asking: $3500

It's been my only car so it's a "daily driver" even though I live right down the street from work, so I don't drive it every day.

I've changed the oil regularly every 5,000-7,500 miles with Mobil 1 Synthetic oils. I'm currently running 0W40 which was great for winter starts, and even still the oil pump still puts out 1.75 bar at hot idle. I've run it on blends of Biodiesel (up to 100 percent) except when on long hauls where I can't get Biodiesel.

I've done a bunch of work on it over the last year I've had it: Complete Interior Scrubdown, New Dash, Repainted Cluster Needles, New CD/Radio, Leather Seats and Door panels from a `94 E320 (Front and Rear), New Brake Master Cylinder, New IP Delivery Valve Seals, New Brake Pads and Rotors (Front and Back), New Blower Regulator, New A/C Compressor and Dryer with fresh oil and R-12 charge, New Idler Arm, New Tires, New Battery.

The car was originally a So Cal Car, so it has zero rust issues, but the paint is a bit rough. A previous owner put on a cheap clear coat to make it glossy, but this is chipping a bit and the trunk paint is oxidized. The paint on the rest of the rear of the car is not badly oxidized, but the clear coat is missing, so it's a matte finish.

Only one mechanical issue: The sunroof tilts without issue, but occasionally get's stuck when you try to slide it open.

It has an original 14 Head on the OM603 engine, but it's passed a compression check and has shown no signs of cracking or any kind of failure.

I've been trying to sell it locally. One guy had a pre-purchase inspection done at a local MB dealer. Two major issues surfaced. Brake Master Cylinder was failing and the Tranny Cooler part of the Radiator was leaking a small amount of tranny fluid into the coolant. They also identified an minor oil leak from the IP gasket. The local buyer got cold feet even after I offered to fix both major problems. I've since installed a radiator from a parts car and tried to flush out all the tranny fluid from the system. I also put in a new brake master cylinder.

I would be keeping the car, but I'm entering a religious order in the fall and I'm not allowed to keep my car.

I'll post several pictures here, but I'd be happy to share more pictures as well and provide any details you'd like.

Thanks for looking.

Cheers,

Ian

Growing up I played a lot of softball on the field (now gone?) a block east of St Vincent. Good luck with the car.
