Wanted: 80-85 300 Turbo in Seattle area
Hi Everyone,
So 2 weeks ago our family wagon blew up (volvo v70) and our mechanic advised us to pull the plug. I had hated that car since we bought it anyway so I am kind of glad to not to have to sink money into it anymore. My wife and I had talked about our next car being some sort of alternative fueled vehicle and since we can not afford a newer car here I am. These mercedes are pretty addictive. I've been on the hunt for a nice 300 for the last few weeks and have seen a lot but not the one. If anyone happens to know of or has a good one for sale within a reasonable drive of seattle i'd love to hear about it. We are both pretty excited by the prospect of being mercedes owners and from this forum I would guess we would be in good company. Also if anyone has any good tips on what to look for as far as warning signs I'm all ears as I am still new to looking at these cars. Cheers Andrew |
Have you looked on the Seattle craigslist? There are ALWAYS good Mercedes diesels on there. Seattle is basically the diesel Mercedes hub of the USA, so you are in luck. Here we have a lot of Euro-spec cars as well.

Yup, Craigslist is your friend. You'll be able to get away with just looking at the Seattle site, but I'd expand my search from Bellingham to Portland, you never know what might turn up. And, I agree with Squiggle Dog, having Canada so close lends itself to having some pretty cool Euro cars roaming the streets around here. Good luck and please post pictures when you find your new diesel! :) |
Thanks Guys,
I've been scouring Craiglist multiple times a day. Visited 5 so far but have not had good luck I guess. Should I expect them all to have issues? I've seen strong motors and terrible cosmetics and nice cosmetics and questionable motors. I guess I am holding out for one with good both. Should I expect vacuum issues on any car I look at? Thanks Andrew |
When your on craigslist make sure your searching "mercedes diesel" not just by models. Portland also has some good cars. I've seen a bunch of diesels local on auto-trader in the past.

Thanks for the tips guys.
Found myself a good 85 300 Turbo. Like them all it needs a little bit of work. The only tough thing is going to be figuring out how to fix/replace the drivers seat. Seems like this is an issue that comes up a lot and that there are not many good ones left at the scrap yard. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. It's the palamino color by the way. Cheers Andrew |
