1985 300D (OL Turbo)

You read it correctly, I was the lucky buyer of perhaps one of the finest examples of a 123 diesel still around. Because my photographic ability cannot compare to Tyler's , I will attach a link to his for sale ad from earlier this year. Please read Tyler's post as I will not repeat what he had in his ad -many good items.

1985 300D: Ol' Turbo 198k, Wichita, Ks $3995.00

I am selling because I would like to move on to newer models (this is my 3rd 123) and I just do not have the time to "tinker" as I have with previous 123's. I bought it at 199K and now has 206K - runs flawless, shifts flawless, excellent highway cruiser.
I would like it to go to a forum member so will put it here first. Car comes with many new spare parts including front rotors and pads (Mercedes) and full set of new axle boots and lube. I will ask more than Tyler as I have done much since owning and would like to get my money back. Price - $5995 OBO

This is a fine 300D and while it was in very good order when I purchased from Tyler I have done the following:
Bilstein comforts front and rear
Both driveshaft flex discs and center supprt bearing
Rear pads and rotors (mercedes)
New vacuum master valve and pods in doors and fuel door flap
Multiple sections of vacuum line and intersects
Hood pad
Trunk seal
Power steering flush, filter and hose
Multiple sections of fuel line and new cigar hose
New spare tire
Reman HVAC control module
Very nice passenger seat installed, good spare driver seat with excellent donor spring and pad set not insalled
4 wheel alignment at dealer
Washer pump, line and nozzles
Valve adjust
Rear diff fluid (Mobil 1)

The "Bad":
Both rear windows very intermitent
Floor heat HVAC pod leaks (blocked off) so HVAC blows in default, which is defrost and side vents

That is a nice one - I remember checking out myself before you purchased it.

* was it re-painted? I did not see that in the original post...

With all of that Vacc work I assume that the central door locks now work?

Do you have some spare R12 to include with it?

It is indeed a clean one. Tyler had it repainted - a quality job (at least to my untrained eyes).
The locking system works perfect - all doors, fuel door, trunk, I spent a lot of time (and a little money) on that one
Regarding the AC - Tyler had a new compressor installed and had it converted to 134. I have the receipt.

Yes, new compressor, but I refilled it with R12.

Wow. Didn't expect to see this.

This was a hard one. This morning I was very excited to have a chance to buy this car back, and messaged Dave. I figured I could sell my Miata and have Ol' Turbo again for my driver... Then I took the girlfriend around Kansas City with the top down, music playing, and realized how smitten I am with my '01 MX5. Plus I have the '82 300TD that I plan to drive a while once its finished. The timing is just a bit off.

Whoever buys this car won't regret it. I just hope its a forum member and not some local Wisconsin yokel who will drive it on the salty roads on poorly filtered veggie oil.

You know, there is a way to ensure that this does not happen...

BUY IT BACK.

Wisconsin Yokel! Now I could make a comment about Dorothy from Kansas
I too hope it goes to a forum member. I do doubt if someone local bought it they would drive in the salt - not many specimens this old that are this clean around here.
I'm not really in a hurry to sell, but would prefer not to have to store it for the winter.

Someone schooled in the ways of voodoo needs to put a hex on my current DD (Toyota, not a Benz!). It is 12 years old and has 221k miles on it, so shouldn't take too much!

Then I can pick this car up when I am in Wisconsin in November, and drive it home to Houston. It can spend its time garaged at home and at work...will even share the garage with a VW TDI (do DI and IDI get along ok?).

How 'bout it guys? Anybody got game? I need some help here. No way my wife is going to allow 4 cars in the family. And I have not had an MB for about three years...I am way overdue!

Tyler doesn't make a habit of paying more, way more, than he sells something for.
Very nice car. I really enjoyed driving it......

Understood, however:
1. When he listed here everyone said how under priced he had it.
2. I put that much into it in the short time I've had it
3. It is one of very few remaining in this kind of condition
4. Tyler is not my targeted buyer (would be happy to sell it back though)
5. I did say OBO - Tyler did not haggle from his price
6. It wouldn't break my heart to keep it

My post wasn't directed at you btw.

Ol' Turbo sold because the buyer was getting a premium for the price paid. It enticed somebody to pull the trigger.
Not a thing wrong with keeping that car. It is awesome!
