I've had at least three instances where I went to look a a used mb and found I could not touch any oil with the dipstick.

One was at a mb dealer about 25 years ago. It was a nice looking about 8 year old 280 108 IIRC. As I was test driving it I noticed the bearings would rattle at a stop sign, so I drove it carefully back to the dealer and looked at the dipstick. Then told them about it.

When that happens, its time to walk away.;)

Living right outside Philly you see this on a regular basis though not nearly as heavy handed...
