Wanted: 1990-93 W124 300D Diesel Sedan

My brother has observed my diesels and is interested in one for himself. Naturally, he wants to get one newer and in better shape than mine!

So, I'm looking for East Coast/Middle Atlantic area diesels, W124 and perhaps W126 (3.0 Liter) in the 1986-1995 years. The best would be a 1990-93 300D, but others will be considered.

I think he would be looking for one in nice shape and using the typical price guides for a private transaction. This would suit nicely someone about to trade in.

Post a description here or in a Private Message to me, and I'll get back to you if there's any interest. A single small picture posted here would help the screening process.

He is ready to buy.

Thanks,
Ken300D

The 95 E300 with the normally aspirated OM606 is also a fine car.

Hey Ken

I know of a 87 300D locally, its got 202K miles.. asking $4500. I never checked it out, but I called on it, the owner says its in excellent shape, only thing that does not work is the sunroof. Its burgandy outside with palimino interior. If you want i'll check it out next week and snap a few pics.

Yes, I think the 1987 300D is worth considering. If you have the time and feel like it, I think a picture would be great.

Still not feeling any psychic pressure to sell the 300SDL?

Thanks,

There are several pretty nice looking diesel wagons on EBay at the moment. A nice one in Richmond is on EBay currently. I'm pretty sure my brother is interested only in the sedans.

So many dealers now on EBay that want upper end retail and like to threaten you with court action if you don't close the deal. I'm almost instantly turned off if I see its a dealer.

Cool The Search is Finally Over

We finally found a 1992 300D for my brother. Now we have three generations of 300D in the family, if you consider an engine change a "generation". This vehicle turned out to be a one-owner car that was traded in for a Lexus. In describing what work they did on the car, the dealer said he replaced the vaccum modulating device on the injector pump - the one that controls the transmission shifts. When he got it, it was shifting very hard.

So, someone traded in a really nice vehicle because it needed a $200 part. For a Lexus.

Having driven my 1987 300D with the 3.0 Liter engine for some time now, I could certainly tell the difference in power with the 2.5 Liter engine. The 1992 also seems to be geared differently so that the engine RPMs are less for a given speed. In a few cases to get up hills at highway speed I had to either floor the accelerator against the downshift switch or in one case actually engage the kickdown switch. To its credit, the downshift was smooth and ran the RPMs up into the effective turbo range. The 2.5 Liter also seemed quieter running. This car has 205/70R15 tires vs. my 195/65R15 tires, and the ride seems to be softer, without all that much change in handling.

Here's a picture:

Glad your brother got his car. Your comment about the 300D's power concerns me. I have a '87 300D and I love the mountians. I find the power of the '87 just fine for the car, and pressing the accelerator to the floor should make me go faster, not just hold speed! Sounds like I need to be looking for another '87 instead of a '92-93 ?

Brian
