For Sale: 1982 240D 4-speed in Pittsburgh
 

It is time to say goodbye to my 240D. I have owned the car for the last 5 years and have driven it about 26,000 miles. Car has about 225,700 miles on it. The engine and transmission are strong and the car has always started for me when I needed it to through the last 5 harsh Pittsburgh winter mornings.
The main problems with the car are as follows:

• There is an intermittent rattling noise that can be heard at idle that stops when the clutch is pressed. I have been told it is the throwout bearing but I do not know for sure. Each time I drove the car for a longer distance on the highway (about 100 miles or more nonstop) there is a rattling noise that starts that comes from somewhere in the drivetrain. The noise again stops when you press the clutch down.
• There is a harsh vibration from the front end at speeds of about 55-70 mph. I inspected the control arms and steering components and found that all the rubber seems worn out which I believe is the cause of this. However it could just need the front wheels balanced, I don't know.
• There is rust on the car, mainly on the floorpan and the driver side rear quarterpanel extending into the corner of the trunk compartment. The passenger front seat rear brackets recently punctured the floor when I had a passenger in the seat. Also the front passenger inner fender well has a good amount of rust. I do have a rust-free battery tray that will go with the car if the buyer would like it.
• The dash lights do not work
• The antenna does not go up or down

The rear tires have about 3000 miles on them and the front have 26000. I drove this car to Columbus, OH twice this year (about 500 miles round trip) without any problems however the vibration from the front end is quite harsh and I would not recommend driving it a long distance althought that is up to the buyer. I would like to see $1500 for the car however I am open to offers. Please ask any questions or post any comments. It's been fun owning and working on this car but I can no longer keep it.
