FS: 1982 MB 300D Turbodiesel (98,000 Miles)

This is a one-owner car I bought from a retired professor whose husband gave her the car as a birthday gift in 1982. Charcoal gray/black interior. Garaged. The car has 98,000 original miles with perfect books from day 1 (even has the original window sticker). She just had the car painted when I bought it, and it looks extremely nice. Interior is very very nice (as it should be). Air worked last summer;I have not checked it this year. Her husband was a White House photographer. She said several of the President's wives had ridden in it! My plans were to put the car on Ebay, but I want to give the list first chance. With this low mileage, condition & PERFECT books, these cars are selling for $10,000+. I will take reasonable offers. Please email at xke190sl@inbox.com for detailed pics. The car is in North Carolina, 5 minutes from I95. Owner is reducing collection of MB, Jaguars, & Rolls Royces.

Thanks!

Richard

NOTE:
On both of those cars you are selling....in order to see if the the air conditioning is working, a lot of guys would just turn it to the 'on position'.
Kind of important to some people....

Honestly, what is the amount needed in your hand cash to buy the 240d and the 300d? This is not a trick question.

I am getting offers for both nationwide...currently at $12,000, but for a quick cash sale, I would take $11,000.

I have sent the seller several emails about this car and the 240 d for sale.

I first saw the 300 listed on CL and emailed then (Apr 7, 2011) ........and even sent 2 phone numbers with no reply to emails and did not get any phone calls.

The ad was flagged very quickly for some reason and I never saw it again until now. These look like nice cars but the contact is lacking IMO for a potential buyer to be able to do much more than look.

The only thing I don't care for is that the 300 has been repainted.........I know it looks good but original is everything to me.....as is communication with the seller.

This link goes to the Benzworld forums index. Not useful.

Wait. $11 grand. Have not bothered to check the AC.

Arrogance takes two Rs, am I right?

I have a nice, 98k mile 300d, one owner, in my driveway. I am reducing my collection of lawnmowers, odd-coloured bundtcake wheels, authentic German garden knomes and imported fine cat litter.

Who wants to give me $10 grand?

I take cash, euros preferred.

No Contact Information

Not sure why the poster said there was "no contact". PLEASE contact me (concerning the 1982 300D, 98,000 miles) at xke190sl@inbox.com (as posted in the ad). All emails to THIS address will be answered (and have been). I do NOT check this forum constantly.

I have negotiated a deal with the seller to purchase the 82 300D. I will be flying from Houston to NC and driving the car home this Thursday.

I have been looking for a nice 300D since I sold my 300SDL to Tyler a few months back. It is nearly impossible for me here in Houston to find a nice one ( trust me I have been looking for ages).

This one appears to be well loved and should be a keeper. I will keep everyone posted about my trip and post pictures when I pick it up.

I will reveal the price when I pick the car up and have it in my posession. I believe it was a very fair deal.

I passed on the car , It has an extensive list of problems/issues. I can forward to anyone on the forum that is interested.

Dissapointed, but I guess I have no one to blame but myself. Flying across the country to buy a 30 year old car has its dissapointments. I have def learned my lesson.

Anyone who lists a car with comments like "Air worked last summer but haven't checked it this year" is not someone you want to fly across the country to meet, sorry for your troubles but you can see that this listing was putting up red flags from the beginning.

Having said that you did the right thing by walking away. I have also made the same mistakes and pondered the wisdom of flying home empty handed but in the long run the experience would have only gotten worse for you had you accepted the car just because of the inconvenience of being away from home. Good luck with your search.

Yup, we've all done it. When the description is too vague and the seller doesn't know the car that well just pay to have a local tech do a PPI.

"She said several of the President's wives had ridden in it!"

Good grief.

("Wives" I doubt; Interns... very likely)

HoustonM3, I've just sent you a private message asking for the list of issues that caused you not to buy the car--just posting here in case you don't get it. Many thanks!

Well a much better operating model than buying based on photos, then trucking the car across the continent (and in my case, across a border) only to be royally screwed on the transaction.

Not a question of blame. Chock it up to life experience. Hope the flight was decent.

Have sent a PM. Given that the vendor ripped me a new one in a PM, over my sarcasm to his ad, I am dying to hear what's up with the vehicle.
