What is a Nice W116 300SD Worth?

I am looking to sell my 1978 300SD in above average condition. I cannot find any of these cars for sale anywhere so I have nothing to compare prices to. What is my car worth?
The chassis had around 283,000 miles on it when I got it. The odometer broke shortly afterwards and probably has another 5,000-10,000 miles on it. I just recently replaced the engine with a supposed 50,000 mile engine. The car runs absolutely perfect with no fluid leaks. The paint is original and has a few chips and dents however it looks perfect from a couple feet away. The seats are in excellent shape and are fully supportive. The dash is beginning to crack but still looks good as is the interior wood. I installed a European style bumper on the front. All windows go up and down but the front passenger side is slow to go back up. Original radio and antenna work. No sunroof. Heater servo cracked so I installed a manual heater valve controlled via a cable located under the steering column. A/C never did work. Has almost brand new tires. Comes with an auxiliary fuel tank mounted in the trunk. |
Also forgot to mention, the car has always been in southern California and is 100% rust free.

Took me 3 months to sell a 1980 300SD with 120,000 original miles, above average condition, virtually no rust, and working AC. Finally let it go for $2900.

Beautiful example there! I am looking for a decent W116 currently, but Im in Nebraska..when you decide on a price, PM me!
|
Id say around $2500 if you wanted to sell it, maybe $3k to the right person.
|
Thats about what I was thinking. I would let it go for $3000. Anything less than that I may as well keep it.

If you'll permit a slightly off topic question....I've been looking at one of these (1980 300SD, W116 chassis) where car only goes in reverse. So sounds like B2 piston. Are these simple to replace as in W126 or more difficult? Trying to figure out if it's worth taking a chance on the car....and resale is an issue, hence my joining this thread. Thanks.
|
Same procedure I believe. And yes resale can be an issue. I have had several not so nice W116 before and I couldn't hardly give them away.

Yeah, I think I'd take $3000. I'd just never pay that........ If folks beat your door down to offer you $2500-$3000 then that price opinion is correct. When it doesn't, either get realistic or, keep it. Value won't be rising..... |
Wow I have been looking recently for an 80 and back 300sd 116 car. If anyone knows of a good cheap one I would love to hear about it. Good luck with the sale that is a beautiful car.

I paid $2400 for mine and needs nothing. It also came with a set of new tires.

I would be interested if it had a sunroof. For some reason ALL the w116s that have been coming up for sale don't have one (and none of the 1980s seem to have been delivered with one to start with). I miss my w116. Good luck whatever you decide. If the car has been good to you, you could do way worse than hang onto it. |

Hello,
Have you still got Mercedes w116 diesel for sale.
Please let me know. Thank you, Karol |
Add me to the list of interested parties (behind Karol) and PM me with details on price.
I would also be interested in the US front bumper if you have it. I prefer the US look on the w116. |
