This '91 S-class has a factory crate engine with 60,000 miles, installed in 2001. Has a #22 cylinder head. Engine burns no oil. 26 MPG highway.

Interior is in excellent condition with only a minor mark on the driver's seat in the usual spot. Wood trim is in good condition with only a minor crack here and there.
All accessories, toys and goodies work as they should (a/c, power windows, sunroof, cruise control, power seats, stereo, alarm).
Factory Euro headlights with Euro headlight wipers and washers. Dual airbags.
New: windshield, headlight lenses, vacuum pump, exhaust system, hood pad, fuel filter, oil change, & brakes (in a box in the trunk).

Forgot to add that the sunroof lifting arms are new, both carrier bearings & supports are new, flex disks are new, just had a freshly rebuilt turbo put on ($1700), and Whunter just freshed up the transmission.

I got a good look under the car a few weekends ago... the rust at the subframe mounts is worse than I initially thought A friend and I added a little bit of metal in with a welder to stabilize the mounts, but really this car needs a repair like this: Reinforcing Rusty Frame

I wish you better luck with the TDI than we've had.

Bumping this up. My SDL has been off the road for almost a year now. The working odometer reads just over 220,000 miles.

The good:
All of the above listed items including:
-New AC compressor
-New AC condenser
-New delivery valve seals
-New front carrier bearing & u joint (u joint cups need to be tack welded in place - was going to be the last step of driveshaft repair which hasn't happened yet)
-Fantastic windshield (installed 20k miles ago)
-Great headlight lenses (NOS installed 20k miles ago)
-Just repaired rear brake line & hard fuel lines
-When last driven all HVAC vacuum pods work properly
-New Motorola AM/FM/CB power antenna installed, but not fully connected
-Transmission refreshed by WHunter 30k ago.
-New turbo installed 20k ago
-New sunroof tracks installed 30k ago

Bad:
-AC system seems to be empty now
-Rust where caster arm brackets attach to the body. This area is still solid but needs attention ASAP.
-Rust bubbles starting to show in various places
-Badly rusted front fenders
-Front DS ball joint is a bit loose
-One of the radio amplifiers cuts out sometimes
-The CD changer decided it doesn't want to work anymore
-The cruise control has totally quit working

Why the car is off the road:
There's a static balance issue with the driveshaft. Perhaps I didn't re-assemble it properly? Perhaps I bent one of the flanges? Perhaps the centering piece is bad?

-New aftermarket rotors
-New front caster arm bushings (DS was just installed)
-Extra radio parts (amps, headunit, tuner, cd changer, original antenna)

I hate to see the car go, but I've just lost interest in working on it. The motor runs perfectly and the trans shifts OK.

Great color combo--always love me a Silver on Black W126, and the fact that this one has had a crate engine put in is a major bonus. That said, like most on here (I'm sure) I have plenty of old Mercs lying around and couldn't support another but if there's the best reason to buy this car its that the best uploaded Mercedes factory videos you'll find on YouTube have been put there by our friend Compu 85. If you've never seen the old sales training or technical videos he kindly uploaded, you need to check them out. I can't tell you how many times I've watched each of them (and then lament that Mercedes is a shell of its former self). But seriously, if I was in the market for an SDL, this would be on its way to Ohio without hesitation.

Jason - can I assume the pictures at top of thread are from 2012? Any chance of updated pics. The rust areas are concerning as you can throw more into bodywork and paint in these girls than they are worth. This probably would be a good restorer if the frame and body are to far gone.
