Right, and lately fleabay sellers are asking huge amounts of money for junk parts. Used parts for the price of new in some cases, and people can ask whatever they want. It's only worth what someone is willing pay for it. The good stuff, like BBS rims are out of sight. A customer just sold me a set of average BBS RA rims for my '82 320i BMW, and he wouldn't budge a penny under $400. I bought them anyways, I'm almost half a century old and this is the first car I ever bought rims for.

The real problem is all of the new reality shows, Gas Monkey Garage sold a horrid rusty Rambler for 20k to a yuppie, the thing looked like a bad LSD trip. The whole rat rod industry is the next bubble, a few years ago it was Mopar's with a Hemi.

Heck, even clean 240D models are being advertised for 10k to 18k in Hemmings right now, ironic that the bottom of the line car is worth more than a similar condition SL from the same period.

the 240d is a very very good car. excellent handling, ride and engineering. quality, servicibility, and economy really second to none.

Decent fuel mileage and a manufacturer who will provide any part needed along with excellent after market stuff.

I think it's driven by fuel economy. Feeding cars fuel is only going to get more expensive. People who want flashy cars want them to get better gas mileage now! A 240 is one of the few classic cars at 30 years old you can get 30MPG out of.
