I am looking to sell my wonderful 1969 Mercedes Benz 220D that I have put some serious work into, but unfortunately needs a bit more to be a beauty. It is a cream with beige interior, 4 speed column shift manual (really neat!), with just over 100,000 miles on the body. Overall cosmetically, this car is in wonderful condition. It was restored by the previous owner in 2005 cosmetically, but since the engine was so fresh, only a small amount of mechanical maintenance had been performed until recently. I have since replaced the entire engine with a gently used 1970 220D engine with 34,000 original miles. The car runs like a beauty, but unfortunately, there are some small issues that need to be attended to before this unique car can start cruising in style!

The GOOD:
Awesome paint
Minimal body damage (see pictures)
Fabulous interior
100,000 miles on the body
Odometer works
Column Shift Manual
Recent Engine swap done at a local Mercedes shop
Engine replaced in last 500 miles
Strong Transmission
Many new parts with engine swap including engine mounts, transmissions mounts etc.
Much more...

The BAD:

Needs new linkage coupler gromets ($295 parts and labor at ********)
Needs new subframe mounts ($200 part at ********)
Needs steering coupler replaced ($150 part at ********)

With these few things, this awesome classic will be ready for the open road, with a fresh engine!

The car is currently located in San Antonio, TX at the ******** Mercedes Shop, awaiting these repairs. I have neither the time nor money for this, as I am moving out of the state in the next couple of weeks. I am asking only $1800 OBO for this beauty! Please PM me or feel free to call/text me at 210.528.8758 with any questions.

More pictures of the car can be seen at:

Thanks for looking!

If your car was closer to CA, I would definitely be interested. May I ask where you are moving to?

Brownd4138 09-24-2012 10:23 PM

Denver area, however the car is not coming with. Make an offer, I may just accept it! :)

Cool! I really dig the column shifter and tiny center seat.

Thanks t walgamuth! It is awesome! Make an offer! All PMs answered.

my offer: Bring it to my house and I'll buy you lunch

(man I really really wish I had money to burn)

Does this car have an A/C system that can be made to work?

I live in Houston. :D

Brownd4138 09-25-2012 12:25 PM

TheDon - Might need a bit more than lunch.... ;)

Brownd4138 09-25-2012 12:27 PM

spoilsport - yes, it has the vents and whatnot for air, and it does have heat. You would just need to mount and compressor and condenser on the car and hook it up. My shop here in SA is familiar with how the work is done. :) Interested? This car truly is amazing, I just don't have the time to fix the small issues on her before I move.

Brownd-
The rates for shipping a car to CA are less if the vehicle is "operable." That means that it steers, brakes, and drives. Based on your "The BAD" above, I wasn't sure if this is true for your vehicle or not. I am finding prices of $900 to ship to CA if it is operable. A lot, but not a total deal breaker.

shortsguy1 - The car starts and purrs just fine, and steers and brakes, but currently without the linkage issue fixed, it is stuck in gear. My shop can fix that issue before you ship if that's better, and you have one issue out of your way, and the car will drive. :) The linkage issue is not an expensive one to fix, so if you wanted to go that route, you can. I can't imagine finding a cleaner '69 220D for the money. :)

That is a STUNNING interior. Much envy and missing my W114...

I am a bit confused on the Ac part. The compressor seems to be in place but no Controls on the car. Are they missing? How a bit a condensor and acculumator? Thanks
