WTB Good dependable smaller Mercedes for cheap daughter
My daughter is in need of a smaller reliable Mercedes 190e c220 c230 c280 or maybeeven a 300e. Nice condiiton. But she doesn't have much money to spend. 1000 - 1500 is probably tops.
It needs to be a Mercedes because I was informed by my wife that we're going to help her buy this car. I won't buy any car other than a Mercedes. I could fix-er-up so the car need not be in perfect running condition. |
Here comes the title jokes and catch phrases like " The most expensive car I ever owned was a cheap mercedes".
I have seen some good deals on craigslist though. I got a 190d of ebay for 600. Sent from my iPhone 4 using Tapatalk |

sorry man,.. you will have to pony up some more dough.....in the 3500 dollar range

?? 1 to 1.5K won't buy much regardless of the brand.
If you want to go the fixer route, find a nice but low value common car that needs a motor / trans ( regardless of the brand ). A mini truck fits the bill too. |

The cars are out there but you'll have to really scour the ads to find a good one with enough repairs that places it in the "salvageable" category.
When my sister wrecked her 190E I searched for a replacement. We searched high and low through CL because we wanted local and wanted to inspect before purchase. After hours of no success, an ad comes up and it's a 190E 2.6 for $1000. We look at it and we express interest. Turns out the registration was expired so the seller took out $100 from his own asking price. Needed a few things here and there but nothing my mechanic could not sort out. I drove it home and started on the repairs. Now my sister drives it daily. There are success stories but they're few and far between. |

And, you are in the hot bed of Mercedes land where cars are plentiful and rust free. Northern Ohio probably isn't where the money is and salt tends to make cars evaporate. |
My two current Mercedes drivers 190D & 300SDL were BOTH under $1,000 Yes they needed some repair, no they're not rotted.
Looking for a gasser for my other daughter. she had a 190e that I gave to her for graduation, it had a couple gremlins, but got her where she wanted to go. since then, she's been through a neon (against my advice) a hynda (which was taken without her permission and totaled), she's now got an Old alero POS. Needs to be a Mercedes, it's the only car worth owning,,, literally. |
Why is your daughter cheap?

1992 Mercedes-Benz 300 Series 4DR SEDAN 300E 2.6 Rusty. Seat Bolster. 235k. Needs brake job of some level. No A/C. Here are some others I found in the Columbus area, some look promising! http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/3354550014.html http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/3340340226.html http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/3259436404.html http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/3311233805.html http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/3305941005.html http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/3268518501.html |
Dang. $1500 literally doesn't get you anything out east. :(

I think I am aware of like three or four in Cleveland that are on this forum. None down in my neck of the woods though. |
I paid about a grand for my 300e about 6 years ago. I remember immediately spending 2k doing brakes, suspension, and belt related stuff.
I would sell you my VERY well sorted 300e, however, I would still cry like a girl at 3x your spending limit. |
