Super clean 1970 Mercedes 280S

I know.... I just bought the car. But things are changing here in the SF Bay Area and I would like to keep this car but..... its the 3rd car and we dont need this third car.

About this amazing car.

I bought it from the 2nd owner. She acquired it from her boss who was the son of the original owner.

Anyway, the original owner had the car sent to a Mercedes restoration shop. And after many months and about $35K later the car was returned to him. He drove it for a short time but unfortunately passed away. The car was will to his personal assistant as was several of his other cars in his collection. This took place around 2004-05.

The Mercedes then sat in a garage in Arizona until the day that i bought it. But it took a long time to find a solid car. I looked at at least 10+ cars. I even paid appraisers from out of state to inspect cars for me. I was serious!

But everytime I went to look a a car it was absolutely not what it was said to be. It was so annoying and so frustrating. It wasn't a money thing. It was that the cars were really pieces of ****e!

Then I got a call from an associate in Arizona. He found a car that was not advertised and it was for sale.

"Its not rusted out! It is complete and running and really nice" was basically what he told me. I spoke to the person with the car and was told of its history. I received a set of documents, (several pages of restoration receipts) via email. I got onto Expedia and bought a one-way ticket. With a wad of cash in my hand I was determined to buy this car. Yet still prepeared to walk away. But it would be a long long walk.

The owners friend picked me up at PHX and then we took a long drive out into the desert to a small community. Out in front of his house was the Mercedes part regally in the driveway. At 200 feet away it looked amazing. I remember turning away as we parked on the curb not wanting to look at it until I was up close and very personal.

Well, it was easy to see that this car was special. Immediately I went to inspect the wheel wells. SOLID! The floorboards. SOLID! The trunk and spare wheel well. SOLID SOLID SOLID!!!

The motor was so clean and original. The interior was complete but it needed dusting and cleaning. The paint looked shiney and unpolished. No problem!!! The chrome... "most of the parts were replaced but the larger parts were rechromed" I was told. And yes, it appears that was. In person at 10 feet away.

The car fired up easily and idled well. What more could I ask for? Uh.... the title please. We struck a deal and I drove it home to San Francisco in 18 hours. I got over 18 mpg on the freeway and I took her up to and over 100mph several times! This car is solid!

It has new Bilstien shocks and the Factory A/C has been rebuilt and it blows at 53* cold. It also had a set of new dual Weber Carbs installed before I bought it. One of the reasons for its reliability. It has two sets of wheels. A set of restored vintage BBS wheels 16x8 and the stock steels with hubcaps.

Otherwise, I didn't need to repair anything at all. I tuned it and wash it and show it at local shows. I used it for special occassions like the company Christmas party. My wife and my wedding anniversary. Driving to posh parties in the Los Altos Hills and the casual Sunday Morning drives either to the Wine Country or up and down Highway 1.

The car is in great condition. And not only for its age. Its in great condition. Because I drive it there are a few additional chips in the paint. But no dents or dings. Sometimes the car sits for a few weeks without starting due to me not being around. But it fires up everytime. Never needed to charge the battery. Its that good.

This classic Mercedes Benz is ready to drive anywhere! Even to the East Coast. Prepare to roadtrip!

PM it interested. I will be posting this on CraigsList and other forums. So if you read see it again you wont be surprised.

$8600.00

Bringing it back to the 70's San Francisco style.

The motor has less then 5k miles since a complete rebuild. New valve train, internals etc. Block has been MagnaFluxed. No cracks or issues.

For sale. Reasonable offers considered.
