Looks like a beauty but I think you're pushing the upper limit of the market. What do you suppose happened that the transmission needed rebuilt? That's really uncommon at such low mileage. Sometimes low mileage examples are trouble from all that sitting around, garaged or not. Every gasket, seal, boot and bearing is 28 years old now, and will eventually need tending. Just a bit of a reality check from an old Benz head. Looking forward to the exterior shots.

Politely said & I completely agree & no offense intended....:P

Very nice car, but for that price and mileage claim....you really need to provide proof that it is accurate....It so common to find replacement speedos in these cars, that you just can't believe the reading....also agreed about the work low mile cars will need from sitting.....I drive proof....

anyone want to make an offer ?

barry12345 05-30-2013 12:29 PM

Perhaps upon inspection someone will. Reciently the sale of things may have softened somewhat depending on the area. Try to remember that the actual market is quite small for these cars.

Here there is not the normal spring upswing in my opinion. We purchased something that had been on a local site for many weeks already last night.

It normally would have sold in a day or two or more likely as soon as posted a year or so ago. In my area many people have just reduced their consumption of things to some extent in my opinion.

I suspect too many people like myself are just sitting back and waiting for some kind of financial event to unfold. Or the cost of living in general has escalated so much that it alone is slowing things down.

An actual example is there is a half decent 1983 300cd coupe for sale about a hundred miles away. When I phoned they told me no one has come to see it.

I may have a look at it when I drive through the area if still there. It has been advertised for months at three thousand. When I called the owners father just asked me to make an offer. They want it gone.

Beware of the illusion of high dollar cars of this model being sold on ebay. Many are never sold but appear again for sale later by the same vendor. Even though all indications are they already sold at a very high price. Almost a scam.

If you are serious about attracting people that will have some serious interest. Get a good close up picture of the steering wheel posted. Unless it looks like new there will be no takers above the 3-3500.00 price area.

All too many people that have the deeper pockets for this model have known that the vast majority of the low milage claimed examples are not accurate. They demand records that hold up to examination and verification.

If you do not have the oil change booklet in the dash that is good up to at least a 100 k and all the changes filled in. The cars claimed total milage is over ninety percent certain to be wrong.

The owners in all too many cases really believe the car they have has not been tampered with when it actually has in a previous persons hands in some fashion.

Many could not really even consider making an offer for any real kind of money if that factory oil change booklet is not present and the contents in it add up properly. If you have that booklet and it adds up post it in your ad at least and a good clear picture of the steering wheel.

Actually all I am trying to do is help you get a price going on the car that makes sense. Or get some indication going that it is worth more than an average buck.

what a great looking car !!

I have a 60k 1985 300d as well. Mine was given to me by a relative and so the 60k miles is actual. If I were to sell it I would not be able to provide proof as well (not that I will sell as it was a gift to me to keep in the family). But my car has been sitting outside and the paint is all gone. It's very surprising to see how a garaged kept example looks

thanks for your point. things like orig windshield without hardly any rock strikes as well as the front grill area i think is another indicator of low mileage. mine has these attributes.

Mercedes had problems with paint after they went to a more ecological process for 1984 and 1985, the clear coat deteriorated pretty rapidly in the sun.

My '79 300TD had the original german windshield with no stars, cracks or chips until 2010 when it was cracked by a rock and covered under comprehensive ins, then two months later it got the first of two stars that it now has from small rocks. Seems the original glass was either really hard stuff or an angel was riding along for 31 years to keep those chips away!
OTOH, it showed quite a bit of abrasion from sand, you know small pips all over the glass and that was noticeable when the sun was low and in front of the car. This is something that comes with mileage or if you drive in the desert during a windstorm you get sand blasted!

best fuel lines i've ever used no air leaks and if you want to use bio-fuel they will last longer than viton.

bald tires true but they will have to stay that's why its OBO

i have all orig. keys, i just dont want to loose them.

not sure about the axle comment??
