For Sale: 1983 Grey Market W126 280se

Up for sale is a 1983 280se, grey market imported car. A friend of mine deals with a lot of Mercedes, BMW, and other European vehicles. He came across this car a bit less than a year ago, and asked me if it's an interesting car, as I know more about the older Mercedes' than he does. Immediately after I looked through two pictures of the car I told him to buy it, since I think the color combination is amazing, and of course because it is a grey imported vehicle. He bought the car.
After driving it for a few days, he seemed to enjoy it more than his CLS550. It was his plan to keep the car, bring it back to it's former glory (not that there's much needed) and use it as a weekend cruiser. He then got busy and caught up with a lot of different work and simply lost interest. The car itself is in good shape, drives great, starts right away, shifts nice (except a jerk when gear is switched from P to D and D to R. I suspect it's a simple vacuum line issue), does not overheat, and simply rides like a great '80's landyacht.
Below is a simple breakdown of the good and the bad about the vehicle, as well as some pictures.
Good:
1. Starts, drives, shifts great, and does not overheat
2. Exterior and interior of the car look great
3. Sunroof, mirror adjustment, and other features work great.
4. Tires are in good shape.

Bad:
1. The wood trim is cracked in some places, and is missing on top of steering wheel
2. The suspension makes a squeaking noise when the car is driving. I suspect it is from sitting for a while.
3. The tachometer does not work. I do not know why.
4. The car jerks when the gear is shifted from P to D and D to R.

The car is located in Philadelphia, PA. Any questions can be addressed to me via isved1@gmail.com.
Asking price is $2,200.
Thanks for looking!

Diggin the Euro details.

gatorblue92 05-13-2013 07:29 PM

Oh man this is so tempting but the timing isn't right for me. That is a sweet euro W126! GLWS!

cooljjay 05-13-2013 09:31 PM

Yeh um...I am speechless on the interior color....

Exterior color nice!

Squeaky suspension....means bad lower ball joints...

isved 06-17-2013 12:56 PM

The more I drive it the less it squeaks. It's ready for a new home! Somebody has to want a sweet all euro car.

If it was in SoCal I would be all over it, love to have a 280SE. This is what a well of farmer would drive in Holland back in the day: a W126 with crank windows.

$1500, come and take it.

Mölyapina 08-19-2013 08:45 AM

I shouldn't be asking you this, but....

...how about my Buick Century -- 47,000 original miles, great condition -- plus about $400 on your end and I take the car? In other words, I give you the Buick and you give me the 'Benz + $400?

Mölyapina 08-19-2013 11:06 AM

Rats, I just realized that I won't get the title to the Buick from the RMV for another couple of weeks. The offer still stands, but we'd have to wait a couple of weeks...

isved 08-19-2013 12:05 PM

I appreciate your generous offer, however the only reason I'm getting rid of the car is because neither my friend nor I have the time to enjoy it. It'd be the same story with the Buick.
Thank you though!

Hogweed 08-19-2013 07:51 PM

in the picture of the trunk are those leaves in the channel below the window or is it rust? where abouts in philly are you?
thanks
gregg

I'm honestly stunned that this is still for sale.

Hogweed 08-19-2013 08:16 PM

a lot of dudes don't abide the manual window scene, walter:)....esp in a w126 where you'd have to be 6'8" to roll down the pass window while driving

I am seriously considering throwing my Buick up for sale if this is still for sale when I get the title for the Buick. I wonder what it would take to manualize this thing...
