85 300D - needs to go, free to a good home

Hollis, NH - FREE, FREE, FREE, yes it's FREE

I bought this at auction 2 years ago. At that time it had ~125,000 miles on it and the tachometer didn't work. The sunroof was siliconed, it had the usual rust but it drove very nicely, the engine had lots of power, transmission was smooth. I haven't driven it much since then, daily commute to Boston, 50 miles each way, for several weeks, other than that just around town and moving it around in the driveway occasionally. I wanted to get it restored but after going thru 2 other restorations some in the household are not looking forward to another.
Some quirks that have come up...
The odometer has stopped working
After about 25 miles of highway driving I get a thumping noise in the right rear. Pull over, put it in park, put it in drive and the noise is gone again.
The windshield has a large stress crack in it.
The rubber around the rear bumper is falling off.
Last month I charged the battery but it didn't start. Not much more effort put into it than that.

I need to get this out of the yard but would hate to see it go to the junkyard. I have another 300D with a restored body that I'm keeping even though the mechanicals are not as solid.

It may sound like it's a wreck and not worth the trouble but the engine and transmission are very nice. If you can do the body work you'll have a sweet little gem.

I can be reached at 617 230-1240 or brian22.stout at gmail dot com

Thumbs up

You're a good man, giving your diesel MB away by offering it to folks that will appreciate it!

Another project, JB3 ? Now, you need a rust free, GREAT interior southern body to put that engine into.

Its a pretty metallic blue color, lots of work ahead to bring it to its former glory, but the biggest issues are rust.

These cars never cease to amaze me. This car has been sitting at Breezy's place for a long time. wasp nests all over it, mouse nest in the air cleaner, living mouse that had to be chased out by breezy once the nest was extracted.
I tow it down to RI, throw a battery in it and check the oil, and it fires up on less than one crank. Faster than any MB diesel ive ever owned! incredible

that looks very nice. who wouldn't want that? blue interiors are meh for me, but I could do blue for free. that's what I get for sleeping. Funny thing is, I was in NH at the time, but in a valley w/poor service.

I second that request daw-two
or anyone willing to cut patch panels for reasonable prices???
I need some sections under a passenger floor near the front and rear ends

Sorry to steal the thread, but that seems like the theme on this one.

Way to pass-it-along Breezy!
