87 300TD Wagon in SE Wisconsin

1987 300TD MB turbodiesel Wagon. Injectors recently rebuilt. New Vacuum pump, 1 window regulator, 1 hydrostrut, both spheres (accumulators). Has a bit of rust, and dead paint. A new paint job, and fix the rust spots and it could be a nice car again, or drive as is. 3 of 4 windows work, heated seats work, rear windshield wiper and washer still work well. Self leveling rear suspension in good condition.

1987 wagons are unique, they have the powerful OM603 turbodiesel. It delivers a pretty reliable 30 MPG average, and always starts, even in the coldest weather. It is one of about 500 that were built for the US market. No diesel wagons were built for MB since, making it a one year car. It has no problem keeping up with modern traffic. It still has the first aid kit, and probably the original spare.

It had the trap oxidizer recall work done. New turbo, and most of the exhaust was replaced. The car is stock, except for the addition of Euro spec headlights. They do have the servos for vacuum height adjust, but they are not hooked up.

It is fully loaded for a 1987. It has everything except the 3rd row seat. A storage compartment is in the floor there. It has leather interior, with a rip in the rear seat. It does have a block heater, and i have used it a few times.

The AC does not work. I tried charging it, and it lasted about a month. I charged it again, when i went on vacation. It is cold until the freon leaks out, so there is a leak somewhere.

Mounted on it, are 4 new winter tires, i used the car 4 times last winter, that's all the miles on the tires. I am selling because I rarely use the car.

Questions? Ken

Cell 262-412-0816 text messages ok. i have all the pics on my phone, so if you want any by text or email, just ask.

Minor nitpick: MB built diesel W124 wagons all along, but this was the only year they sold them in the US.

He said "built for the US market."

That being said they made more than 500.

I seem to recall from another thread that about 1700 w124 300tds were imported for the US market in 1987. Not exactly rare, but not too common either. Someone with stronger search/google-fu might verify this.

I heard US sale numbers were nearer 2,000 plus a lot of the white on bue tex cars were used by the dealers as "service cars".

Heck I've parted out 10 diesel wagons must be more than 500....
