Smile Wanted: Older Diesel wagon with 3rd seat

Hi everyone. I am new here obviously. We just bought our first Mercedes--an 80 240D manual. It was supposed to be my car, buy as soon as my hubby drove it, he claimed it! That's ok, though--what I really want is an older 79-84 or so diesel wagon with the third seat. If anyone knows of one for sale, I'd appreciate some insight. I know I am hooked, but don't know a whole lot about what I am doing here!
Thanks,
Stacy

I have no intention of parting with my '85 300TD, BUT

I have a friend with a grey-market '79 280TE (same W123 chassis) gas burner (c. 160,000 miles) who mentioned to me a week ago that he was thinking of selling it "in a year or so." It's medium green with a beige cloth interior; I'm quite sure, but not absolutely sure that it has a third seat. If you would consider a very quick premium fuel gas-burner, I would be willing to try to put you two in communication with one another.

Is the 87 300D (for $8,500) still in the GRP? I saw it last week and talked to the owner. He is asking too much.

Dear Desert Rat

I'll try to email him today to see if he's ready to do some serious talking (remember that in my previous post I quoted him as saying that he might sell it in a year or so). Then I can get you his email if he's interested. He's a professor on sabbatical, though, and doesn't always check his email every day.

Are you looking for a good beater car, or a wagon in mint shape? I am currently driving a 300TD, which is a solid car, but not in great shape. Its got the third seat and all that, and all the mechanical stuff works well. Of course, I could let it go cheap, around $1500. Structurally its solid, but it has some body rust. I planned on fixing it up well this summer, but if you want it, there are plenty more projects out there for me.

So far I have:

Replaced window regulators
Replaced Oil Gauge
Replaced Glow Plugs
Changed Air Filter

It runs well, but starting takes a bit of work. My guess is that when I adjust the valves and change the fuel filters, it will start much easier. It has about 300,000 miles on it. The rear suspension works, as does the climate control.

If you want more picts, I can post them here or email them to you.

I'm in the desert Las Vegas (lost wages, Nevada). I wouldn't mind a non-runner but I don't know what to do about the rusts.

Stacy,

Third seats and the accompanying seat belts are available new and used so consider a wagon without a third seat if it meets your other criteria.

Hey everyone. Thanks for all the posts. Sorry I haven't responded in awhile, but my daughter has been ill--first strep throat and then she started having what I hope are just migraines, ugh! I have kind of put this on hold for a little while until we get through all the doctors visits and tests with my little girl. Once again, thanks for the responses.

Stacy
