FREE! Come and get it! 85 300SD!
A friend of mine has an 85 300SD he was given. The motor was run without oil and is very damaged, tho it still runs on 4 cylinders. Has ABS, alarm, and memory on the driver's seat. No airbag.
Southern car, no rust. Faded Diamond Blue paint over a faded Pebble leather interior. VIN is WDBCB20C2FA153171 Here's the picture I have: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-O.../P86267300.jpg Contact Brian @ 314 302 7163. Title is in hand. FREE. He wants it gone! Car is just outside St. Louis Missouri. Thanks, -Jason |
How nice to give away a free W126. Wow never heard that one. Hope someone snaps it up quick.

wish it was a bit closer

I have a complete engine/drivetrain from an '86 SDL. I wonder how hard it would be to stuff it in that car?
|
You'd need a custom driveshaft made up.

I vouch for Jason (compu) He is an honest man.

I'm thinking, "not"

I'm thinking probably not so much on the "need a custom driveshaft", ever heard of a 350SD? I'd be willing to bet it would fit, work fine. Anyone here have any idea if the transmission output shaft on the 300SD transmission has the same dia / splines as the 300SDL transmission? I'd be willing to bet it is, even if it isn't, I'd guess unbolting the drive shaft from the transmission end at the flex disc, swap those ends. I know what someone will say next: The six is a longer engine, the whole engine/trans package will sit farther back, hence a need for a shorter drive shaft. I would think any good drive shaft shop should be able to handle shortening it. Shortening drive shafts is a whole lot easier, not to mention cheaper than "stretching" one! yeah, ok, some would argue that means it's a "custom drive shaft" now  So go find one from a 350SD. |
you know you want it!!!

Go for it! it's....free!!! You know you want it! You know you can't resist! The Force is with you! Go...get...it...now!!! :D |
I thought the 300Sdl was a longer body than a 300 Sd. That might be the driveshaft issue.

:deadhorse: There's also the possibility of finding a drive shaft from a 350SD donor as these had the six cylinder and they are also short wheel base cars. Which brings me back to the other issue I do not know about concerns the transmission output shaft. Could it be different from the transmission that comes with the OM617? Even so, couldn't that be unbolted from the front of the drive shaft from the 350SD car and used instead? Seems like a possibility. :deadhorse: |
Has anyone snagged this yet?
So a 300SD with ABS?! How cool is that! It would also have the high gear ratio diff too, what is that 2:88's, right? That's just too cool to pass up for free! Looks like the color of the interior is cream? That's a great color and pretty rare too I think. I know of a 2nd gen car just came into a local PnP with cream color interior with some great seats (which they sell real cheap)...
|
Yes, for 1985 ABS and airbags were optional on all W126s. It should have the 2.88 diff and the high stall speed converter, as well as the vacuum amplifier for boost compensation :)
