I am reluctantly parting with my white 1981 240D because it needs a transmission rebuild. The engine is strong, start right up even when cold and even when the battery is mostly dead and slowly cranking.. I hate to part with it, but don't have the time or $ to get the work done. I have tried fixing vacuum leaks, modulator, kick down solenoid, and nothing gets it to shift over second, it gets 1st and goes to 2nd, but won't shift over 2nd.
The transmission is the style with vacuum only control, no cable or mechanical link. A transmission shop thought maybe an issue with the governor, but I don't have any actual diagnosis of the issue.
otherwise, decent condition, lots of parts that could be used, etc. i'd keep it as a parts car, but don't have anywhere to store it. just put in a new 100amp alternator, glow plugs, and belts. The large vacuum hose to the brake booster is cracked so no peer brakes at the moment..
I was running this car on veg oil for the last 30k miles and it ran like a champ, still does.
Let me know if you are interested in it as a project or parts car. Have to sell it all together, I don't have room to store and part out, sorry.
