It's this post right here. Look at the pics in that thread, and then the first pic in this thread. The outside and inside pics are old ones from the other owners post. The only recent one is that lame pic taken on the last picture in this post.

You might could pick up a rusted 84 or 85 300D on the cheap. Take out the om617 and mate it to the 5 sp manual gear box. I think that would gather some interest.... at least mine anyway.

So 1.5 years ago, the asking price was $4500. After a respray, I wonder how much that has changed?

no mention of mileage or maintenance, so I concur with Jake the car whisperer, who called it @ $3500.

good thing OP likes it, looks like he'll be keeping it

The Newport W123 is in my old 'hood, would be happy to PPI for any interested member- I'm off the wagons these days.

Hi guys,

I've been reading all the posts over my listing and appreciate all the negative and positive comments, seriously I do. I'm not new to Pelican btw, I've owned many 911's and used to chat here and there but never here on the MB part. That link to the other 230TE with the canoe on the roof is My car! That's too funny. So if you looked at that link then you all know the car has 240k on the clock. You all seem to be soooo annoyed at the fact that I didn't post a price, ok I get it. $12K. There, every one happy?! I could have posted 25K, or $3000, I was simply trying to get an idea of what "the community" felt it was worth and that would not have happened if I had posted a price so my original intention worked. Someone said $3500 at best, no way Jose! I paid more than that and put a $3000 high quality re-spray on the car so I'm happy to keep it a month longer or 5 years unless I'm offered something north of 10K for it, finances are not an issue. But I'm happy to have you guys point out to me there are at least 2 other gasser estates around, that's very cool. You must admit though you won't see one on every street corner. I'm glad I made every one's brain work overtime on my post these past few days, sometimes it takes so little to get people going.... but well worth it in the end. Happy 2015!!!!!!!

I have never seen a $3,000.00 respray where two panels did not match. That is a very nice looking $3500.00 vehicle.

Mr Manual Estate,

You may be pleased to know that I valued your car at $11,500.

But, without more pictures, maintenance records and information it's hard for a group of (mainly) diesel junkies to take an "ad" like this seriously.

Of course your car is very rare and special to you, as it is for many of us as well. But you must understand your market is narrow. This is a w123 station wagon at an odd price point, with a gas engine and a manual transmission. There seem to be two markets for these cars: The solid used, reliable Craigslist market where a car can be had for 2-7k and used as a daily driver. DIYers, Veggie convos and enthusiasts who enjoy the quality of these cars and the reliability of the OM617 operate here.

The second market starts around 12 thousand and goes to 50k+ and serves those who want a reliable family collector car for weekend homes on Nantucket or in Aspen, and financially equipped MB collectors. These are fully sorted cars that require no work and have low miles, and are garage queens. Think MercedesMotoring-esq cars. They are great "Hobby" family cars for 30 somethings that grew up in them and now have kids of their own. Simple to operate, own and can be serviced at any MB dealer.

Your car is priced out of the DD enthusiast range, and has little appeal to the family "hobby" collector market IMHO. 12K is to expensive for this car as a DIY DD, and Hobby collectors don't understand the rarity of this car (or know how to drive a manual) but just "want" one for nostalgic reasons. The W123 wagon is an object of consumer culture of the 80's just like rubix cubes and cassettes.

So that only leaves the true MB collector market. Folks who have W113s, R107s, G-Wagens and Heckflosses. They would understand the rarity of this car, and appreciate it. They could use it as a shop car perhaps, or a neat truly driveable part of their collection.

It's a curiosity/novelty car that someone will surely enjoy.

And PS. I probably will see one of these in my life. I live in Florida, the state this car is registered in. But I think the best view I will get of it will likely be through the rear view mirror of my E63 AMG wagon when I'm passing you. Hey at least I won't smell diesel

One thing people forget is that most of the time the money you put into a car does not build equity in it or raise its value much if any, it merely holds the value stable where it is.

Check out the used MB market in the 12k range. My local dealer has a 2008 E350 with full options for $17k right now, 58k miles on it. They have a GL450 for $15k, 130k on it.

12k is waaaay too high...if it had a 280 motor and 100,000 less miles....then maybe to the right person.

I completely overlooked/forgot this was a gasser with over 200k miles and just realized it had a respray.

Self submit it to bring a trailer and hope for 6500$.

I think 3500 is a bit harsh, but to each there own.

I'd like to add GLWS. It's very hard to infer ones inflection based solely on text. Just because we think the price is looney doesn't mean we think you are.

I tried to buy it when it's prior owner had it. The current owner is definitely hoping for beaucoup $ for it. I bid on it on eBay twice, and I think the auction ended with me being the high bidder both times. I would be willing to give $5,500 for it which I think is a fair price given the car's mileage and the fact that it's a car with a very narrow market, even to Merc enthusiasts. Lastly, I wish I could say I've seen a 'high quality' $3K re spray. Perhaps the seller has a friend who is a painter and who did it on the side in which case I'd believe a nice job was done for $3K, but if it went to a bodyshop, I've never seen anything decent for less than $5-6K, particularly given the size of this car.

Mercedes W123 Estate 230TE

Looks like he wants $12k+

Where exactly did you get it appraised for $13k?
