Kind of agree with you regarding the Kind a boring/comfort ride... does NOT have the feel soft floating w126 vibe.

Also- has several electrical glitches- I had My tuner eliminate all the Clean diesel sensor crap...

BUT-- that om648 diesel-- feels like it will go 400k --easy!!!! GREAT motor

We will see how much money is wasted chasing other sensors/and BS

My 211 experience was on par with what Volvo Diesel mentioned in regards to electrical problems. Hvac, rear seat latch alarms, overhead control unit, sunroof calibration, heated steering wheel, air suspension, blinker control module (yeah a module to control the blinkers), crankshaft position sensor and I’m probably forgetting something. But that M113 and 722.6 sure we’re nice.

I totally disagree with your assessment on the E320CDI, VD.

My wife also has an S211 (2007 E350T-4M) that we've had for about three years, and I agree that it's uninspiring and prone to expensive failures: ours had both the intake manifold tumbleflap failure and the balance shaft sprocket failure, resulting in about $10k out-of-pocket costs on a $15k purchase price in the first three months of ownership after the selling dealer (MB of Tysons Corner) shafted us on the warranty. But that's another story for another day.

I have a 2006 E320CDI and two couldn't be more different. I bought the CDI with 203K on the clock about two years ago, paying $6k for it from an independent flipper. It had a very good CarFax showing a lifetime of dealer coddling, but I soon came to realize that it had a pretty severe case of the Black Death. I had the guy who services my Sprinter cure it and a couple of other things for just about $1,300, so figure I paid $7,300 for it all-in; it now shows over 226K and is without a doubt one of the best cars I've ever owned.

The driving dynamics are very similar to my dear departed S123 (1984 300TDt) - very agile, most likely due to the RWD configuration instead of the AWD on my wife's S211W, and firm without being harsh, but bordering a little on the floaty side when pushed hard. And like all Mercedes-Benz diesels, it thrives on neglect and needs very little attention.

However, without a doubt, that OM648 engine with its 369 lb-ft of torque is the absolute crown jewel of Mercedes-Benz creation and totally transforms the experience. I have almost as much fun with this car as I did when my daily driver was a '97 C36AMG. As long as I use the manual shift to keep the transmission in the appropriate gear for full boost, all I need to do is point and shoot and I'm suddenly going stupid fast. Passing traffic, merging onto the freeway, squirting across a blind intersection - there's nothing this car can't do with ease and confidence.

The fact that it gets +40 mpg on the highway and can easily go 600 miles on a single tankful is just icing on the cake.

06+ interior went down hill big time. Earlier cars had better quality interior. Also 06 e350 engine is a ticking time bomb.
