FS: 1976 450SEL 6.9

Hey everyone, some of you may recognize this car/story from other forums such as w116.org, vwvortex and mbworld but if you don't know the story, here it is. A few months back, I was scrolling Craigslist and came across this 1976 Mercedes Benz 450SEL 6.9. I called the owner right away and drove up the next day to look at it and bought it on the spot. It's a full euro spec, gray market car with a mere 68k original miles on the clock. It has been parked for a while and will need work to make it a driver again. The previous owner said it was parked due to a suspected fuel pressure pump problem and he had too many projects to around to this one so the car was stored indoors and covered until he finally decided to let it go. Since originally being parked, the strut towers for the suspension have rusted so that should be the top priority for the new owner. As you also may know, these came stock with HPS suspension which has also gone by now so it'll be up to whoever buys it to decide to put coils under it or source a new HPS system. The engine has been hand cranked and there is one dead spot so an engine rebuild wouldn't be a idea also. I had plans to totally restore this car and bring it back to it's true potential and glory but life is getting in the way with college, and I may be moving to Europe in the coming months so there's too much on my plate to restore a 76 6.9 at the same time. If you'd like to know, I was quoted 10-12k for a total rebuild to make it a driver again, more if you wanted a concours level job. I don't really have a set number in mind, I feel like the right person knows what needs to be done and I'm accepting offers. The car is located in Central California, thanks for your interest and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Hi Carson, on the W116 dot org web page I have a nice grill for sale for $20 plus shipping. A nice looking grill may help the sale and it is selling for cheaps, cheaper than JY pricing. Do you have an idea of pricing? Shipping to SE is over $1K.

The strut towers are rusted?
Is it originally a California car? All the w116's I've come across here have never had strut tower rust.

So, how well does everything else work?
Windows, sunroof, AC blower come on at all? Or have you not been able to get power to the car at all?

Can you text me pics of the rust? I'll pm you my number. I've been wanting an euro 6.9 but anything more than surface rust is a no-go for me. That color is amazing on a w116 though.

Are you talking about shipping the car? If you're interested, I can look around for some shipping costs, I think I have a price in mind but like I said, I'm accepting offers at the moment

I already looked, and it's in the $1,000 range to ship it. poop. I wish you were closer. I love the green interior and exterior. I already have spares of the HPN system, and some odd ball W116 stuff too.

It's a Euro car, so I would assume not...

I have a set of 6.9 axles (supposed to fit a 126 too) and a couple of rear struts for a 6.9, they leak a little. If someone wants them, make me an offer and pay for shipping.

Tell us a price, if you want an auction, head to ebay

Emmerich 10-10-2015 12:49 PM

Its not an auction. Give me a price, if acceptable, its yours.
