1989 300GD Gelandewagen - Late model - Tallahassee, FL

Hello everyone!
Up for sale is my green 300GD. It is the very sought-after Long-Wheelbase version, with a 5-speed on the floor and a turbo engine.

EBay Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Benz-G-Class-300GD-/191692348880?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2ca1c11dd0&item=191692348880
Flickr Album: https://bitly.com/1989gwagen
Miles: 104,584 miles
Price: $25k BIN, negotiable.

BODY
—Desirable Forest Green color.
—Straight body, no accidents. Previous owners have used it mostly as an urban car, so it has seldom seen rough tracks or the abuse typical of an off-road vehicle.
—Rust: the truck comes from a dry climate and it is 98% rust-free. The only three spots are on the right upper fender, next to the turn signal; some bubbling in the left corner of the roof, and some bubbling under the lower LH corner of the windshield. A good body shop should be able to address those. Detailed pictures are provided.
—Solid, rust-free frame. There is no rot or piercing rust in the undercarriage, perhaps some light oxidation that can easily be brushed off.
—Truck comes with four aftermarket wheels with (quieter) road tires and a stock spare wheel in the back.
—Glass is all intact with no cracks or chips.
—Rear RH fender flare is missing a small piece at the bottom (picture provided on Flickr album).
—Factory tow hitch (tow capacity up to 1,650lbs without brakes and 6,170lbs with brakes).
—Factory skid plate.

MECHANICAL
—Good running five-cylinder OM617 diesel with an aftermarket Garrettturbo. Fuel economy is ~20MPG, mixed driving. No leakage, was told one of the previous owners did a complete re-seal.
—Five-speed manual transmission.
—Differentials and transfer case are quiet; rear one has slight wetness, normal for a 26-year-old vehicle.
—Brakes work properly, without drags or any vacuum leaks.
—Exhaust has been rerouted from an unsightly side discharge to the factory rear discharge configuration.
—All lights (front, rear, sides), instruments (odo, fuel gauge, glowplug, temp), dashboard indicators and central locking work as they should. Only the aftermarket radio is non-op.
—The truck does not come equipped with factory A/C.
—Fully functional, smooth-to-operate hydraulic factory lockers.

INTERIOR
—All door panels are stock grey fabric, without rips or tears, as are the rear seats and the 3rd row bench seats.
—One of the previous owner replaced the original front seats with a more comfortable set that I got upholstered in original Mercedes “Rodeo Gray” plaid fabric, black vinyl, and new foam.
—Headliner is fine, as are all the door panels. One hairline crack on the dash and some wear on the dash handle. Recently replaced some of the inner door handle trim with new for all door panels to be perfect.

Accesories/Options:
—Aftermarket fire extinguisher, secured behind the driver's seat.
—Troop carrier style 3rd seats, with seatbelts —factory option.
—Hydraulic bottle jack.
—Operational land meter.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Yessir. It's got a period-correct Garrett aftermarket kit.

Interesting. Who swapped it from RHD to LHD? Is that parking brake handle still in the RHD configuration?

Did the after market turbo conversion include pistons with the cooling duct and oil squirters to cool them? How about sodium-filled exhaust valves? Bigger radiator?

Manual says 750kg without brakes and 2,800kg with brakes (trailer!).

I am not quite sure... parking brake is next to the passenger seat, so I assume that is where it was originally. I do not have any info on the engine work; but apparently it has had a full re-seal at one point.

By the way, the lens problem is cured. New tail-light and reflector

I'd be concerned with:

The wheels having the correct pattern, these "Wagon Wheels" are common in the USA in 114.5mm ( 4 1/2" ) bolt circle but , assuming that the truck is standard MB 112 mm , not so much in 112 mm. If the wheels came from other shores then all bets are off.

If the headlights have been converted to right hand dip for left hand drive. ( Or at least center dip )

I make no judgement on the condition, but given the details popping up, it probably has quite a tale to tell.
