300CD going to scales soon

Hi all. this is the remains of my trusty 300CD. The floor is solid I believe but there is rust in the fenders and such. Too many winters of salt....though it came from Texas. The engine and tranny are gone and the hood and headlights. The interior is complete but the leather is pretty well toast. Door panels are nice. Front and rear glass is intact....not sure how clean they are.

I'll be taking it across the scales in a few days so if anybody is interested I will make a great deal to them if they pick it up or I can deliver for some deal that will be reasonable. Once I get it up on the trailer I may as well drive somewhere.

Side glass is intact too and the mirrors which are Coupe specific.

Cars are paying $ 2 per 100 lb , and the price keeps dropping, my yard thinks it will bottom at $ 1 and not come back for a year. Maybe 4 years ago it hit $ 14 per 100

Do you think that Cash for Clunkers had anything to do with that?

No, that program was a while ago.

It did have an effect on tightening the pool of low cost cars that lower income people tend to buy since lots of usable cars were scrapped. It also took out a lot of salvage yard fodder because engines needed to be destroyed and the car scrapped in some very short time period.

It would take some research to find out why prices went super high then super low. I'd think China's building boom has something to do with it. Look up "China Ghost Cities"

Scrap has for ever gone up and down, think of scrap metals as a mining operation.

there is a yard in my tiny town and the owner and i have become friends. he told me it is related to fuel prices so that when fuel prices go up so does scrap. when scrap was $14/100 fuel was almost $4/gal (i remember paying $4.60/gal for diesel and calculating the fuel to make trips to scrap cars!!).
i guess when fuel is cheap it may be cheaper to make new than recycle? i'm sure there are other factors in the rubric as well

China drove demand, now China is drawing down it's inventory of materials, hence scrap prices are dropping. I expect the price to continue to be low for some time, as the Chinese economy is not looking too good right now.

Shame too, I've got some cars to scrap, wish I'd sent more off to the recycler when prices were better.

Unless someone screams it is a mistake, (and shows me the money) I plan to go pick up the car from Michael's shop tomorrow and drop it off on the scales in Frankfort tomorrow. I'll probably strip off a few of those ultra rare coupe specific parts before scrapping it though.

Check todays posts before doing so. Someone is looking for rear glass from what I remember.

Well, I got help from a young limber and strong man today and pulled a host of parts off the car including relays, monovalve, ac dash controls, wood surrounds for same and above, rear seat including the removable seat pad that goes in the center bin, the back panels and head rests from the front seats, the front and rear inside door and wall panels including switches (in very good condition including un damaged plastic map pockets, and the rear tail light assemblies. Also the side belt trim, outside mirrors and some other misc stuff. If anything is of interest let me know and I'll post pictures.

The back glass is unbroken but cloudy up about 4". The windshield is in very good condition as I replaced it about five years ago. The windshield is coupe specific as the roof sits 2" lower than the sedan.

I will take about any offer on this stuff.

I'm planning to take it to the scales tomorrow so if anybody needs a windshield I'll try to get it out without breaking tomorrow morning.

Still available, PM me. This forum allows too much clutter in FS threads. Hard for me to make heads or tails, for sale or sold...so hit me up

I'm looking for a w123 coupe. Good body. Engine good or blown. I have an extra.
