FS: 1983 300SD
Former Texas car has been in New England for a few years. It's not rusty and looks good on the road. I bought it a few years ago and love driving it but with a company vehicle, several personal vehicles, and way too many projects I'm just not spending time with it that it deserves. It really needs someone who can spend time with it.
<> At almost 293,000 miles the interior needs love. It has some fairly typical high mileage Benz problems. Cruise is inop, A/C works but has leaks (H valve and one O'ring behind compressor), 2 of 4 power windows don't work, power seats need help, woodgrain is in rough shape. The rear differential is noisy and has been since I bought it. The engine shock bushings are bad and possibly the shocks as well. RH brake strut rod bushing is just starting to make noise. Water leaks into the trunk. These are common problems that I've found in many W126 cars. But most of these cars, at least here in New England, are too rusted and worn out to make restoration worthwhile. That's not the case with this car. <> It has new summer tires that have less than 2k miles on them. I bought it with expensive winter tires (and horribly peeling chromed wheels) although I've never driven it in winter. The previous owner spent a bunch of $$ having mechanical work done and I have about $3k worth of receipts. I spent time and $$ replacing ball joints, tie rod ends, several bushings underneath. I'm more than willing to dig out receipts for anyone seriously interested. I have three totes worth of parts including turbo, injection pump, interior seat bases, grille, cluster, and plenty more that I can't remember. I'll be glad to take an inventory for anyone interested in the car (I'm not interested in selling parts separately at this time). The car starts and runs any time I want to use it. I have confidence in it and have no problems throwing the family in for a 200+ mile ride. I try to drive it every couple of weekends and it never fails to get me where I'm going and back. I'm a professional mechanic and the last thing I want on a weekend or day off is for one of my cars to break and my wife and kids to be unhappy. If you trust a mechanic's opinion, then this mechanic believes this is a good car. <> I've got an ad on Craigslist with some pictures. I'm asking $2000 OBO. A rust free body and a car that has been maintained fairly well mechanically is tough to find in the rust belt. It would take some time and effort to make it perfect but it is also a good daily that could be used for years without investing the effort to restore. I've owned three of these cars and I know what I've had to do to all three to make them usable. I believe this one is reasonably priced. CL ad with pictures: 1983 Mercedes 300SD

What summer tires are you using on this? How do you like them?

Continentals.
I like them ok but maybe I'm not the best judge. I am lucky if I get to drive the car 20 miles a month.
