1995 E300D Make me an offer! Going to junkyard if noone wants it.

I'm so fed up with this car.
I've had it for a couple years now, and it has soured me on the w124 chassis, I will NEVER own another.

As you read on, you'll see this is the tale of the vacuum pump that broke the camels back.

Here's the pictures of the car: http://imgur.com/a/ukuSi

The good:
  • It runs great.
  • It shifts perfectly.
  • All power options work, heated seats, windows, sunroof, antenna, etc, afaik it all works.
  • It rides amazing and handles like its on rails.
  • Several Butt-Loads of new parts that far exceed what I'll ever get back out of the car.

The bad:
  • Its leaking oil from near the vacuum pump. Keen observers will note I had tested an electric pump on here, which worked beautifully, but I decided to switch back to the mechanical pump, which works as expected, but leaks oil from the bottom of the housing. not sure if I was supposed to use a gasket or something, but I'm not wrestling that stupid pump back out to find out.
  • Its rusty, was a northern car most of its life
  • has a bad glowplug that I don't want to pull the intake to replace (I have several new plugs that will go with the car)
  • Probably a lot more silly stuff that has irritated me.

The parts that have been replaced and vague prices paid:
  • Engine Mounts (Lemforder $60)
  • Tandem P/S pump (C&M Hydraulics $400)
  • Tires less than 5k ago (Ohtsu, some chinese tire, seem pretty decent though $300)
  • Alternator (Autozone Lifetime warranty, I will include receipts for warranty items $100)
  • Starter (Also autozone lifetime, $100)
  • Axle half-shafts (Oreillys lifetime I believe, $200)
  • Flex discs (Lemforder $100)
  • Front Wheel bearings (FAG $100)
  • Rear Camber adjusters ($100)
  • Front right Spring (Lejofors I have all the others $200)
  • Belt tensioner spring & Shock ($60)
  • Tie rods (Lemforder $60)
  • Little pieces like Thermostat, Etc

Make me an offer, lots of good parts, and if you're up to tinkering it does run and drive, just has issues.

Someone come get it before I send it to the junkyard.

Let's PM about a deal. I have a dieselcraft centrifuge to share already plumbed to a barrel and electric rotary pump.

Can you confirm your transmission model number for me, or help me determine if it will work as a backup for a 1990 300D?

I can fetch it if you work a deal
Thanks,
Stephen

I do already have a pressure driven spinner style centrifuge, I'm looking for the direct drive kind like this: Black Diesel Filtering, WMO, Waste Vegetable Oil | PA Biodiesel Supply

I will check the trans number though, I'm not sure if they changed the trans with the OM606 or not.

I keep thinking of building one, and am in the process of doing so with an old torque converter and some other random junk, but if i could trade this car off for one that someone doesnt want anymore, or some cash and the car for one in nice shape or has extras or something.

Still have the car, replied to joegolden just a minute ago. figured I could share a little more info:

I'll be driving(until its out of oil) then towing/pushing it to the yard in about a week or two, I need the driveway space back and the more I look at this car the more I want to run it over with my truck or push it off a cliff.

With its reputation currently I imagine it would spontaneously combust and incinerate my truck or cause a nuclear detonation that'd split the earth in two depending on what option I chose.

I know the oil leak is a pinched hose when I put the vacuum pump on, I just don't want to cut my hand all up again to remove the stupid pump on a car I'm fed up with.

I seriously would give the car away, minus some of the parts I put on and have filled the trunk with.

There is some brake lights, springs, wiper motors, cruise units, mirrors, calipers, brake pads, all kinds of junk for it.

If nobody wants it, I'll probably in reality end up removing the pump and fixing the leak then driving it somewhere into town in a couple weeks and leave it with a for sale sign on it, signed title in the glovebox, keys in the ignition and hope someone steals it. the theif will drive it for decades with no problems because I fixed them all. :/

If this were closer to me I'd come get it simply because I feel sorry for it. And I'm sure I could find some good use for it or its parts instead of just cursing at it. Hope someone takes it.

thats exactly how I ended up with it. my brother had it for several years in upstate NY, and repaired one thing after another, brought it down here, and couldn't manage to drive it to work once a week without breaking down.

I got it from him when the exhaust fell off (that was the last straw for him) and he was fed up. (Talk about a deafening drive home)

I figured I'd fix it up, its the best handling and most comfortable car I've ever driven.

I love the car, but I can't afford to keep it, I'm mega OCD when it comes to mechanical stuff, I can't use cheap parts and can't have weird noises or feelings.

having something broken in the driveway irks me so bad that if I keep it any longer I'll start dumping money into parts again so I have to get rid of it now before I'm bankrupt.

I hate the thought of scrapping it, but I'd spend every cent I make on parts for my vehicles if my wife would let me haha.

it runs great, I started it up yesterday, first turn and it was purring like a 20 year old sewing machine.

And it does that every single time, I'm telling you its cursed or something. it runs so nice here that it tempts me to keep it and just fix "that one last thing"... but I can't this time. I've got 2 really nice w123s that don't fight me near as much.

I figured someone on here has a w124/om606 they could use spare parts for, and I feel like people on here are more understanding about issues (got a good story about a selling a buick to a friend for another time lol) and everyone here knows whats what when it comes to these cars, what parts are worth and what they can use.

I wish I'd kept better track of the mileage, i don't think I've even put 20k on it since I got it, maybe 10k but not much more so the parts haven't gotten much use haha.

Still have the car, found a couple new BERU sensors I got for it (Temp gauge acts weird sometimes, thought it might be a sensor)

Also found a couple spare wheels/tires, so I have the 4 on the car, the spare which matches the 8 hole rims I think they are, and have another pair tires on a set of the bigger flat style rims that have like 28 smaller holes around the edge.

Few questions....

How rusty is the body?
How far would you say it would drive in its current state?

It's not awful, but is starting to get rough in spots, i'd rate it maybe a 6/10, but coming from NY originally my standards may be worse than others.

well considering the oil leak mysteriously vanished, it'd probably make it almost out of sight of my house haha.

nah, barring its curse flaring up and breaking suddenly, theres nothing actually wrong with it at this very exact moment in time, so theoretically it could be driven for another 100k

And yea JB3, I'm moreso trying to sell the parts in a shell. I don't want people thinking its going to be a daily driver for the ~600ish I'm hoping to get out of it.

just hoped someone had a car that needed a motor or transmission, those have never given me the slightest issue, starts every time, shifts perfectly and has a pile of brand new parts all around them to sweeten the deal lol.

Perhaps this is my way of sharing my frustration with it and disowning the W124 from cars I will own again in the future.

I did like the car, just can't afford to keep it drivable.
In the little over a year that I've owned it I've spent over 2 grand trying to keep it working, forgotten most of the parts that've gone into it, and found piles more stuff I had planned to put on to improve it, meanwhile both of my w123s, and my f150 combined have cost me less than 500 bucks in maintenance in the same time/mileage period, and haven't left me stranded once.
