1984 300SD Turbo Diesel 350K -Free to good home
TL,DR Good running, driving, stopping car. Has issues but nothing major. Free to good home.
I do not want the car parted out! Good driver and in overall good body condition. If I wanted it parted out I will just donate/sell to scrapyard. I am writing this from memory, I was down there last weekend and will be down again this weekend so I will update with pictures then. I've owned the car since 2004. Reason: I moved from Sacramento to the Portland area for work last year. Wife just moved up with me in April. Car has been parked non-op in a garage for the last year with the battery disconnected and on maintenance charge. I started it up and moved it out of the garage last month (needed the room for a bit) so I do know it currently works. Last long trip was 200miles roundtrip to San Francisco Airport with a car full of luggage and people (January 2016). My wife hates this car and is adamant about it not moving with us (had the car when I met here). Doesn't want me spending any money on it. Need to keep the wife so the car needs to go. Car runs and drives but is currently non-op with a clean title. I really like the car and have half a mind to drive it up anyways and keep it. If it doesn't go this weekend I will fly down and drive it back up to Portland. I am clearing out the house to sell and will only be in the area this Friday and Saturday (Thursday night too likely). Want the house (garage) cleared and on the market by July 1st so I need it out of there soon. Would need to go then. I have lost the paper title (still looking for it!) somewhere. It can be easily transferred using the following, which I will provide; reg form 227, reg form 262, bill of sale, notice of transfer and release of liability. Location: Carmichael California (Near Sacramento) Price: Free to someone who wants to drive it, not part it out. Condition: Reasonably good overall has issues but mostly maintenance stuff. Lots of spare parts to fix most of the issues I just haven't had time to throw at it. Color: Dark blue and grey trim. Spare parts: Comes with lots of different rims in 14 and 15. Currently has 15 inch 8 hole wheels off a c280 (I believe). 2 full sets of rims aside from what is on the car and 3 5 spoke stock MBZ rims. Several boxes of parts included. I have euro front bumper, euro clear fog lights (coupe?), and a spare hood. Car currently has clear side corners front and euro headlights with H4s. Original headlights and sidecorners are with the boxes if you want to revert it. Body: Reasonably straight no outright dents I can remember, paint in ok but shine-able condition. Some minor clearcoat peeling on one side of hood. I have a spare aluminum hood in the correct color that can go with the car. Glass all good. Car is rust free and lived in California it's whole life (LA and Sacramento). Drivetrain: Engine runs decent, injectors are due for a rebuild, turbo downpipe(?) leaks oil (I bought the part for this, I believe it is in the parts stash). Standard leaks and other minor issues to engine, 350K miles approx. Some smoke at startup after sitting. Valves are due for adjustment soon. Oil has been synthetic (with the occasional Chevron Delo top off) every 5000 miles. Measured timing chain stretch a couple years ago at the last valve adjustment and it was almost none (sorry don't remember the degrees, just that I was surprised by how good it was). Radiator was replaced about 3-4 years ago since I accidentally leaned on the hose barb and broke it. Transmission was replaced with a low mileage used transmission in 2014. Modulator is adjusted conservatively to protect the transmission. This should be redone by a shop but the car does shift and drive ok so I've been putting it off. Interior: Minor cracks on dash, drilled and filled; overall reasonably decent. Wood has standard issues. Radio is aftermarket (Pioneer I think). I have the original radio in with the parts. Original speakers and wiring was preserved, wired around front/back fader but left it intact if it needed to be reverted to the original setup. Nothing chopped up or molested for the radio setup. Seats are ok, driver seat restuffed using the pool noodle trick. Most of the interior is in pretty good shape. Bunch of the plastic bits, headrests, visors etc.. I've replaced as the fell apart. Have lots of that stuff as duplicates in the spare parts. Some stuff may be from slightly later models, e.g., one piece vs. two piece door pull, upgraded visors etc... Was my daily driver for many years and I upgraded/fixed that stuff as it came up. Door panels, carpet, headliner, etc.., all in pretty good shape. Odometer doesn't work; little plastic gear broke again, I likely have several in the parts that come with it. Ignition lock was replaced, comes with new key that does not match the door locks. Door lock only has a single key. Drivers side door is wired with an aftermarket keyless entry solenoid and the vac locks do work. Brain box for the keyless entry died (actually became intermittent) so it is currently unhooked (under the dash). A/C: A/C doesn't work sort of; rebuilt entire system in 2006 or 2007 as R134a. New compressor, drier, expansion valve, seals etc.... Clutch pulley on new compressor is badly designed and is bolted onto the clutch housing poorly. Bolts backed out and let the pulley spin free after 6 months so it was welded to replace the bolts. Clutch works but is noisy (I suspect a weld is contacting a moving part slightly). Has a very slow leak I think at the expansion valve needs topping off about every 2 years or so. Electronic control works most of the time but will shut off occasionally, I have 2-3 in the parts with it for replacement. A/C does blow cold (well R134a cold) if it is topped off. Suspension: Guide rod mounts and tierod ends were replaced 2006ish. Rubber boots could probably be replaced on a few of the tierod joints again. Could use a professional alignment, had one done in 2004 when I bought the car but in the last couple of years it has started to pull to the right slightly and wear the front tires (I forget how will update with pics later). Tires are driveable but worn, 15inch Michelin or Falkien probably. Tires have been rotated front to back as the front tends to wear a little weird, see above as it could use an alignment. I have quite a few spare wheels (rims/tires) that come with it. Misc: Sunroof works but the button contacts are not so good. Motor and cables are fine this is just a button issue. I can't remember if the power antenna works or not. Electric seat control switches have been replaced, I believe they both work. Has added 3rd brake light out of a later model. I believe the original paperwork and first aid kit are still in the car, but I would have to double check. Pictures: Will upload some tomorrow. Car is 600 miles away now. Sorry, mostly from my memory right now. Probably some stuff I've forgotten. I'll update this tomorrow (no internet there so will be from my phone), which is why I'm typing it out now while I have a computer. I know someone up there that would give your car an appropriate home. Plus I'll negotiate a "right of first refusal" to give the car back to you... just in case you later decide that you should have chosen to keep the car instead of the wife.

I went to DMV and bought a one-way trip permit.
So with that permit come to Sacramento and drive home. Today is the last day I'm in Sacramento. Car needs to go today! |
