Almost every car we own was purchased sight unseen (only viewed via photographs), from 1000+ miles away, and delivered via transport. A couple times I was fortunate enough to have a forum member check out a car in person before purchase. There were a couple exceptions where I traveled to pick it up & drive home (500+ miles), instead of transporting. That said, I generally had an agreed price where I was willing to deal with whatever surprises there were on delivery. To me, getting to see a car in person & take it for a test drive is a luxury!

Good point. Of course the hassle with eBay is you have a limited window for the right buyer to find the auction. Same with any auction (Bring a Trailer, etc).

Used to be the 140 with 606 was the dream of many dieselers, odd there isn't more interest in this one even without an asking price.

Less and less interest in an old Benz. Only time people we’re buying these cars when the price of gas was sky rocketed and diesel was cheaper. And these cars were cheap. The only people that buy them now are the handful of enthusiasts out there. Otherwise they’re scrapped or left to rot. Probably why no one made an offer on this car.

I’d never buy a car sight unseen. You never know what you’re getting into, and you may get lucky with something once, but not always the next time unless you run on luck. Pictures, videos can be manipulated so easy. I could sell you a blown up car with a bad motor running completely fine in a different car in a video at a discreet angle so you can’t tell it’s a different car.

I've flown to get a car unseen.

But that was:
-priced reasonably
-had a dozen or so pictures
-a full account of all that was done service wise
-sold by a reputable member of this forum who had a reputation at stake had something been misrepresented

There are so many red flags on this car its not funny. The biggest one is no price.

The biggest one is a seller that doesn't give a ****. If he did, there would be pictures galore, a ballpark asking price, and many questions answered.

looks like the Black Friday selling has spilled over to this thread?
meanwhile I would love to own that car!
FWIW I waffled over a W124 wagon with a 606 engine in it and regret that, it sold on eBay eventually for a reasonable price considering the condition (no rust very clean and most important to me, it had a CA smog certification by the referees, a systematic wringer they put you through to satisfy the bureaucracy..

I have two problems though with your W140
1) its on the opposite coast from CA and
2) I am certain I would have serious issues trying to get the Smog Police to give me a pass so I could register it here :(
GL with the sale. Diesels aren't selling for squat here any longer. with fuel at $2.90 to $3.15 a gal that doesn't give any incentive to own one especially if one does a lot of driving. So I'm happy with the faded paint on my '99 turbodiesel and I had to call it the "end of the line" for modern diesel cars in this family.

Does everything on the w140 SD work. How does the underside look since I’m seeing NY plates. Any serious rust or corrosion showing. What is the actual asking price.

Seems to be the car - the mystery price is solved.

It is nice but that is way out of this world.
