OK, will do. But please keep in mind that he never returned my first call, and, as I posted a few pages ago, I was too un-entusiastic about the car to do a follow-up call. But the ad is still up so I will try again.

In the meantime though, let's please still keep looking for a lower mile car. I still really need to get something with a lot of life left in it!

OK Eric
Its great being able to search for cars (even though I might be tempted to add to my collection)
but please realize I have been hibernating in front of a computer because its raining cold and windy here, as soon as weather improves a it I have a wall to paint then I'm driving to Oroville and after that I have an antenna project in Napa so I won't be searching CL for ya!
Oh hey, If you want a car looked at up here North of SF let me know I may be able to run take a look for you ... just trying to help.

I really don't know what the hell to think of this one (I REALLY HATE dealing with dealers) but I called on it anyways earlier tonight not realizing that the ad was so old. It's already gone too (cue the Eagles up). I guess I should have used broader search terms from the begining.

tel# comes back as a dealer. selling lots of cars using that tel# on Autotrader, Craigs, etc..
could have told you that by one look at the listing - all caps, call ask for John, do not wait. etc.

It's a $4,000 CDI. Usually they are twice that price. I'm sure it probably has 200,000 miles, but as long as it doesn't have black death, there isn't really a lot of risk there.

there were two 2005 cdi's near me and both around $4k......i would be looking but i've made a commitment to rid myself of debt and not buy anything until i sell my e300.....

OK but what about the 08 Bluetec in my most recent post for $6,800? I know it will have to be checked out thoroughly because of the salvage title, and I know that some of you don't like the aluminum block, but is there anything else I should watch out for? This seems to be the direction that I'm being forced into because I just don't want any high mile cars anymore. That 80,000 miles is really attractive to me. I will of course run a Carfax too.

400Eric, I would never consider buying a vehicle with a salvage title. Buyer beware.

some insurers won't fully insure a salvage title car, if that matters to you. i would buy a cheap car with a sal title but would be wary of spending that on one. i also thought a 2008 was out due to the ad blue?

Salvage/Rebuilt titles indicate that the car has been totaled by the insurance company at some point in its life. That means to be back on the road it had to be repaired by someone and you REALLY hope they did a good, thorough job.

As mentioned, a salvage title usually means that you can't get good insurance and if you have a minor accident, even a fender bender, usually it will be totaled. That $6800 asking price reflects a vehicle in good shape, not an uninsurable monster. If the price were right maybe, but not at $7K after taxes and registration.
