Buy Cheaper G-Wagon in México?

I’m just curious, anyone ever purchased a cheaper optioned-down G-wagon in Mexico and brought it back to the states? I’d love to have one of those over the ultra-lux and massively over priced versions for sale in the US. - Mike

Sure. Just make sure it's 25 years old.

A quick check of Mercedes Benz Mexicos website shows the same G500, G63, and G65 offered here.

Like Harv said, if its not over 25 years old, its not within the realm of reason.

If you look around you'll find Europa Motors G320s from the mid 90s here in the US. Then anything 25+ years old is fair game and you can find those wherever. No G wagon is "cheap" that much I can promise you.

I import cars as a hobby, and I just went through this, in Europe anything over 25 years old that was in nice condition, after the exchange rate, plus shipping, plus import costs, it made more sense to just buy a really nice 1 owner USA spec G500 for me personally. I did not want a 230G, 240GD or other non turbo diesel as I pull a trailer with my G, so if you're willing to accept really anemic, it can be done for less money.

Not to hijack the thread, but Paul, what is your opinion of importing a 25 year old Citroen XM? Are good ones easy enough to find and cheap enough to import to the US to make it worthwhile?

I've looked into importing an older G wagen and yeah...they're just so expensive. Ideally I wanted a 300GD but they are tough to find anywhere, then need to import. I ended up with a mitsubishi diesel instead. Just cant drop 30+k on a hobby car right now.

These days the older G's overseas are more or less the same price as the ones here depending on condition. There isn't as much incentive these days to bring them over on a cost basis unless it's something special (Military, rare options etc)
