FS: 1982 300TD in CA Giving it a chance here before listing it on BAT

I decided to sell my '82 300TD, and thought I would give it a chance here before I list it on Bring A Trailer. I really have only used the TD for car shows, and don't drive it much more than that. I recently bought an awesome 240D (my new show car), so I don't need two show cars. I also have an '04 E320 wagon, so I don't need two wagons. The car currently has 291,XXX miles

The good:
* Less than 2,000 miles on a completely rebuilt engine
* Less than 3,000 miles on a new set of Yokahama tires and refinished wheels
* Nice original paint with only one exception (the hood has been repainted)
* Awesome A/C including Sanden Gen III retrofit, P.F. condenser, New hoses, Gen II W126 fan, R-12 refrigerant.
* Nice upholstery with no rips or "Pink-amino" color change.
* Nice carpet with added "Coo-Coo" mats

* Perfect shifting transmission with recent service
* All stainless steel TIG welded exhaust system
* Pretty decent condition on the wood trim

* Overall-very nice car that is a pleasure to drive.

The bad: (although not too terrible)
* A few small rust spots. I suspect this car spent part of it's life near the ocean. From what I understand, it has been a CA car all it's life.
* The hood was repainted at one time, and has some paint flaking off.
* Although most are a lot worse, there is a few cracks in the dash.
* It has a very minor oil leak (my guess it the rear main).

The ugly:
* The rear cargo area carpet is worn, as well as the spare tire cover
* Other than the Bad listed above, there is not much other ugly on this car.

The rebuilt engine, new tires and wheels, and completely rebuilt/updated A/C alone, are probably worth upwards of 10K. My asking price is $15,000. I believe it will probably garner an even higher bid than that on B.A.T.

That's a beautiful wagon.

I have listed it on my local Craigslist. I have also lowered my expectations (a little) for a 15K selling price, and am asking $13,500. I won't even entertain any lowball offers from the CL crowd, only serious ones. I am holding off putting it on B.A.T., as I may be going to Europe around the first of March. When I get back, the TD is going on B.A.T. if a serious buyer has not shown up soon after I return.

My Europe trip has been moved to April, so I have started the process to list the TD on B.A.T. and removed it from CL.

No longer for sale here- going on BaT

The car will be listed on Bring a Trailer soon. I will post when the auction goes live. If interested, please bid on it there.

They are assembling the auction listing on BaT now. As soon as it goes live, I will remove this thread or at least make the car not available here.

TD Values

They seem to be holding well .

I had the AC upgraded in my greymarket 300TD and Rich was looking at it and thinks I might be worth upwards of $10,000.00 (gasp) .

They're very nice cars to be sure but dang ~ it's just an old station wagon .

I think yours would fetch much more $ than mine, now that your A/C is about as good as it will get. The only A/C part that I have you beat on, is that mine has the larger Gen II 126 fan. Being a unique color and greymarket import makes it even more sought after. I would say yours is upwards of 15K on BaT, judging by some of the other TD's that have sold in past months. Just recently a Signal Red TD sold for (IIRC) $24,000!! Yes it was a top notch car with low miles, so one would expect those high numbers.....Rich

"it's just an old station wagon" you say?

"Just An Old Station Wagon"

Yes ;

Just an old station wagon ~ I'm old so I well remember the days when many American families had station wagons, in 1959 Pops bought an International Harvester 'Travelall' (Family Truckster) , later Moms bought a 1967 VW Typ III 'Squareback' new, I've owned many old station wagons American and Imported and think they're great _if_ you both need and want one.....

I don't so this nice old car is only in my stable because S.W.M.B.O. said she wanted a station wagon to drive and haul our Foster boys 'round in .

Dollar value is nice and all but I don't buy vehicles to please anyone but me or to fill a need .

I was perfectly content to haul them and her 'round in my 1982 240D sedan, I sill have it because it fills in all the blanks except speed .

Do be aware that BAT wants first bite at listings, so if a vehicle has ben listed elsewhere unless it's something really special they're unlikely to accept the listing. They specifically ask this in the application to list.

They are aware of it's listing here, and when the auction goes live, the TD will ONLY be available on BaT. I will post the auction link here at that time.
