1978 300D Non-Turbo (link for photos)
Hi everyone.
Some recent terrible misfortune has lead me here. My dear Lucille slid in the rain and now looks like this. She still drives perfectly, it was a very undramatic impact from where I was sitting. After recovering from the impact, I drove 65mph on the highway to get home or another 1-2 miles. Somehow the steering and suspension geometry is intact but the body panels are ruined. I am not getting anything from my insurance (my fault - I switched to liability for a few months while traveling and forgot to switch it back). I just redid the interior with brand new carpet and had the seats rebuilt. All suspension parts were replaced with brand new components (either Lemfoerder or MBZ) in the past year. Mechanically it runs excellent (feel free to see my forum history for all the work that I have done). This could be a great body work project for someone needing a perfectly running daily driving chassis. Or you could use it as a parts car. Since its a non-turbo, the engine and transmission could be used to "upgrade" a 240D body. The carpet, mats and seats are all in excellent shape and can easily fit any W123. I know W123 hub caps are worth something to someone, so even those alone could be of use. I am currently looking for $1500 or whatever is reasonable. I think my number is fair due to the value of the engine, transmission and interior alone. However; I am open to offers - given my insurance fiasco. This forum has been an excellent resource for knowledge, experience and camaraderie. Given that my car became the wonderful thing that it did, due to the contributions of this forum and its members, it would be amazing if someone from here would take it. Feel free to message me with any questions. FYI, the car is located at my friends body shop in Monrovia, CA. I can have it towed to you if you live within 10-15 miles of Monrovia.
