Fs 1983 300d

I'm scheduled to pick up a friends 1983 300D to put on ebay next weekend. I saw the car for the first time today. The car starts easy and runs out good with 26x,xxx miles showing. Sunroof works, a/c (r134) and cruise works. Car would look real good with a new paint job. I am planning on getting the car later in the week and get going (cleaning/fluid changes, etc) on getting it on ebay. I will post the link back here after getting it up. His reserve is going to be $2k. If anyone is interested here email me for more details. The current owner has put right at 90k miles on this car and has owned it for the last 5 years. You can drive this car anywhere.

Paul - I thought about him when I saw this car. I imagine it would take at least a grand to get it there if not more.

Right, but I gather that is his plan - to buy one off of E-bay and ship it to Hawaii. I think the plan is to buy one for $3k, and then ship it over.

Glad to see you guys are looking out for me. I think the shipping is gonna make it unrealistic. My father does a lot of shipping with a company out of Long Beach, so I am trying to find one out of the recycler or auto trader or e-bay if it's from so. cal....I'll inquire as to the shipping charges from savannah, but I think it's gonna be close to 2k, and if so I don't think it would be worth it. I am gonna set up a couple of PPI's next week from recycler ads, so we'll see how that goes...Thanks again and aloha

Now if you change your mind on your TD we could talk aloha

Oh yeah...Congrats on your new found mechanic's income.

Jim, How much trouble would it be to install a turbo on this car and bring it up to respectable performance. In other words, hit the entrance ramp on the interstate and not get run over at the bottom!

It's internet debut!!!!!!

Went through the car pretty well today. Took lot's of photos so if anyone is interested let me know and I can send pics of everything you would need/want to see. Changed the tranny fluid/filter and replaced the air cleaner mounting bracket. Seems there has been a "bad" battery in it. The battery "tray" is shot and will need to be replaced (I wish I had picked one up when I was at the PullAPart place yesterday) and there is some surface rust underneath the battery tray area. The jack points look good but you can see the protective coating "failing" in the area underneath the car right at the front jackpoints (I have pics of all this). Rright now the car will not shut off with the key and I found the shut off valve on the back of the IP is no good. Got another one coming - thanks Phil at Partsshop.com.

Overall the car seems to have a strong running drivetrain. It accelerates good and changes gears the way it is supposed to with the right amount of smoke for a diesel. My friend tells me he has owned the car for 5 years and has used Mobil 1 the whole time. The brake fluid needs to be changed and there have been a couple fender benders (again I have photos of all this - insignificant stuff really) . The cruise control works as does the a/c compressor. It will not blow out cold air - I suspect it to have a monovalve issue. The first aid kit cover is broken. The interior in good condition except for the drivers seat (pics available). The wood piece to the left of the driver is missing. The tach does not work and the fuel level sensor needs cleaning. The odometer is showing 265k miles. Ebay reserve will be set at $2k. If anyone is interested please let me know. This is not a bad little car but it will require some TLC. Oh yea, the sunroof opens/closes like it is supposed to but the wind deflector does not "drop" when the sunroof is closing. You have to do that manually. The antenna is permanently "up" but the am/fm/cass works good.

I hate 1stimer is not close by - this car would be ideal for him.

Man, that sounds like a car that is in pretty good shape for only $2k. A little TLC doesn't cost very much money...
